transitioning from rocking to sleep?!

Here's the story. My boys are 15 months and until I returned to work in February I could put them in their cribs and most times they would just fall asleep. Now...My mom looks after the boys ( I know I am so lucky! :D !) while I am at work. She loves to rock and sing them to sleep, and for her it works very well. But for me... It does not work!!! I have not changed this method, since I have free daycare with someone who loves them as much as I do, so I am not about to upset the babysitter!

I am off for the summer starting monday and I want to break this habit of rocking to sleep. I am willing to do whatever it takes. Would it be best to couple it with transitioning to one nap (which we are also slowly in the process of doing). Or should I ????? who knows!!

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I had a hard time with transitioning from rocking to sleep so I finally had to let them fuss in their cribs for a few days before they got the hang of going to sleep on their own. It was hard for me to do, but ultimately it made things much easier.

I agree, I think you just have to put them and let them fuss. Hopefully they're not screaming. Mine do not always go to sleep as soon as they're in bed or already asleep by the time they go in the crib. We do our normal routine and by 8 or 10 til they are in their cribs. Sometimes they move around and talk for up to a half hr before they finally fall asleep. Otherwise I hear CIO at this age is tough.

We rocked my older DD as well (learned our lesson the hard way). We transitioned her by putting her in the crib and rubbing her back. Eventually we just put her down. That being said we had one kid and 2 arms. Maybe your Mom could pat one while you do the other? It might be easier to have a few hellish days of CIO and get it over with.
    Good luck!
