My kids are less and less interested in their formula as they are eating all table food...we give them smaller bits and pieces of whatever we're eating, which they love! They have even refused to eat 'mushy' things like baby food, they want to chew, gnaw, and nibble at stuff...

I was wondering if anyone else has transitioned from formula to whole milk at 10.5 months...my kids started with Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron, and they've been on Enfamil Next Step for the last couple of months...

You don't have to post paragraphs upon paragraphs about waiting until 12 months, I've read almost every article written about it---I just want to know if anyone has actually done it...

    Thanks for your replies...Happy Sunday!

I believe, if I can remember correctly (it's been 17 years! ) my son stopped formula at 11 months. He didn't want it anymore, would turn his head and make funny grunting noises. but the downside to that was he didn't want milk either. I think that he associated milk with formula so he just put up a big fight anytime he seen it. I had to do nestle quick strawberry and make it when he wasn't looking...he didn't drink white milk until he was 7 (that he knew of )but it was a good day when he ran home from school and told me that he drunk it!...

I'd say don't force the formula on them, but make sure that they are getting their calcium...cheese worked for us...
    Good luck!

We started introducing whole milk after their 9 month appointment. We started by replacing one bottle of formula with a sippy of milk. I think we started with the daytime bottles and then the first bottle of the AM and then finally the last bottle of the night. They were off formula and the bottle at 13 months (the twins) and 12 months (Liam).

FWIW, this was what the pediatrician told us to do.

Our doctor gave us the go ahead to switch to milk at 9 months. We transition over a week period and they were fine with it.

I think if your pedi gives you the okay, I see no reason why not to go for it. Good luck!

I agree with pp. My dr. said some babies are ready to make the switch at 9 months. He said ours should be switched at the 1 year mark. GL!

I've also heard different pedi's do different things. My pedi said that we can start transitioning them one oz of milk mixed with 7oz of formula when they hit 11 months old, and every couple of days up the oz of milk vs the formula... so in a couple days do 2 oz of milk with 6oz of formula and so forth, and he said we should completely be on milk by time they are one year old. Geesh, I really really can't wait for that day so we can save 200 a month ;)

We transitioned DD from BM to milk at 11 months. The doctor said there was no need to use formula for a month and then switch. Good luck!

My ds started on milk around 9 months, he had terrible reflux and formula was just coming right back up. He was gaining weight great (he was born at 36 wks), and it took several tries before we found a milk he could tolerate, lactaid is what we ended up using.

We switched my dd at 10 months, she was a BIG girl and the ped was fine with us switching her early too.

My pedi said we could switch them at 10 months, and DD is definitely not chubby.

My ped recommends 9 months also.
