Has anyone ever transferred their care in the middle of a pregnancy? I am in the process of trying to switch my doc because it turns out that the hospital my docs deliver at will not allow tubals. I feel like I am having to jump through a bunch of hoops to do it. Anyone else ever gone through this before?

I haven't yet, but I will be transferring docs in July simply because I'm moving 9 1/2 hours away. It wasn't easy telling my doc at my last appointment, and I don't know how it will affect my insurance payments (because I will probably have another kind of insurance by the time I deliever), but the doc was very understanding. They can't force you to stay with them. Its your decision if you want to switch doctors if you are trying to get the best care possible.

I haven't transfered yet but I think I will be. Last time I went to the OB, they had photo copied my records and suggested that I transfer to a high risk practice. None of the OBs there have privilages at the hospital I'll probably have to deliver at with the level III NICU. Fortunately, even though my peri doesn't deliver babies, he said that I could transfer into his practice and I've already met several of the doctors.

What seems to be the issue with your transfering?

Depending on how my appt. goes this afternoon with the OB, I may be switching. If I come out of this appt. with anything that I am going to question, then I am out. I have already called another practice to see if they will take me, so I have a backup. I am already super irriatated with my midwives. They make me feel soooo stupid when I call with a concern/question. Yesterday, it felt like baby A was kicking way way down there, and falling out. I called about it(since it has been 2wks since I had a cervical check), and pretty much got yelled at since I don't have a shortened (can't remember the term) cervix. So I guess in their eyes nothing can go wrong....very frustrated, and nothing feels worse than wondering if you are going to get yelled at for a concern.

i haven't with the tubal issue but i have switched dr.s before when i was pregnant with my 2nd son. i had a dr that was old fashioned and wouldn't do anything for the siatic pain that i had due to my son laying on the siactic nerve in my back. i had 2 appt with him at my 6 month of pregnancy and suffered with the pain for 2 weeks and went once to the L&D to see if they could do something and that same dr. shook his head jotted something down and said that i'd be fine. so i called around and switched my dr. in 2 days while still in pain and i got what i was looking for. a dr. that knew how to move my son off of my siatic nerve so that i could actually walk. it turned out that the dr that i had switched to use to work for my former dr. and so my former dr. kept calling me trying to get me to come back to him. i finally let him have it and basically told him that if he or his nurses called me again i'd take them to court for harrassment. the former dr. thought that my new dr. stole me from his practice when in fact i went and found him---lol.

it does seem trying at first, but if you aren't getting the kind of care that you want or that dr. doesn't offer a service to you that you are looking for then you have the right to switch. i switched in my 6th month which could have been preventable but i wasn't being treated properly so i left. it is ok!

    Lots of love!
