How old are your kiddos? From about 2-5 months we used our TinyLove activity mat every day. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266983

They did tummy time on it with a boppy and they also layed on their back and either looked or swatted at the toys dangling. It played music too... my cousin gave us her's, but you can also get used ones on craigslist. It goes in the washing machine so you can get it really clean before you let your kiddos play with it.

When my girls got older they loved the johny jump-up thing that goes in the doorway. From about 5-9 months that was a huge hit.

How old are your babies, the playmat has been a lifesaver for us, by far DS's favorite toy. My DD really likes the leapfrog catterpillar that sings songs, she loves to listen to the music and is just now starting to grab at it, I put her on her tummy and she will look at it for 10 minutes or so.

Mine weren't that interested in the activity mats so I put them away. I can't say they "play" with the toys a whole lot, but they really like gnawing on the stuffed animals with the soft plastic "teething hands". I call them road kill animals because they look like someone ran over their hands and feet with a car to make them flat. :D We also have a stacking toy that lights up and plays classical music and they are fascinated with it.

We didn't find the play mat all that useful, other than being a place to put them that wasn't the actual floor. They never paid much attention to what was ON the mat. However, they did like the arches that hang over the mat, with toys hanging from them. They started watching them at about 8 weeks, and started swatting at them and trying to grab them at about 3 months. I would also put them in a bumbo or bouncy seat and then push them partway under the arches, so they could reach the toys while sitting upright.

We also had a star that attached to the arches with velcro -- it played music and flashing lights when we pushed the button. It was kind of annoying (I can still hear that music in my head, 2 years later), but one of my DDs in particular just LOVED it from about 3 months on. It was our surefire fussy-baby-calming-magic.

Since you mentioned tummy time, I assume your kiddos are young (under 4-5 months), but if they're older, let us know and I"m sure we'll have more ideas!

We have a wind chime toy (Tiny Love, maybe?) thst attaches to the play gym. DH is 8 weeks onld and already loves to kick at it, and the noise isn't annoting. My twins loved it when they were babies, too. We alos had a kick and play paisno toy that attached to the crib that was a big hit. They also liked fake keys and small teething/ soft toys.

This play mat has been a favorite for all my kids. Also, my kids at that age have all loved their bouncy seats with the toys hanging over them.

Also, in the future. My babies have loved their activity table which I would recommend when they are learning to pull to stand. They play with it every day.

We got DS this toy when he was 13 months and he still plays with it almost every day.

    HTH!

My boys LOVE the link ring things & have since they were quite little. Now that they're a little older, the Exersaucer & Jumperoo are our lifesavers! We do have a tummy time mat & I wish I would've never bought it....it was a waste of money! The Infantino/Lamaze animals are also a big hit around here (we have the Infantino Bunny & Lamaze Giraffe)!

My girls are 3months and we have 2 playmats, a tiny love one and ocean wonders. They LOVE them, they lie on them and kick and coo!
I also busted out their peek-a-boo piano the other day and they're loving that too.
They got a bunch of rattles, animals, etc for xmas and as gifts but I am introducing them slowly since they only have short attention spans. :)

ETA: We have a trashbag filled with Infantino and Lamaze toys that I havent brought out yet either.

We have the Tiny Love playmat and the Baby Einstein mat and the boys are just now starting to play with the crinkly pieces and fuzzy mane on the zebra of the Tiny Love mat. At the same time, the overhead bars are starting to cause problems as they roll into them and get stuck.

Up until a couple of months ago, before they could get a good grip on things, they loved having the toys dangle over them where they could play with them. I would change the toys pretty often, using extra Sassy links to get them down to where they could chew, pull and explore them.

ABSOLUTELY!!! (IMO) In fact, we had two of them so we could rotate them. Their favorite though was the Einstein one. They just loved to stare at the moving lights of the star and to listen over and over to the song which I never seemed to get sick of hearing. We also had a jungle themed one that was pretty cool (I think it may have been Fisher Price) but I think those mats are wonderful. My girls used them until they were just over 6 months old and sitting up. We still kept them around for another month or 2 because they liked to play with them.

My kids are 6 months now and they LOVE their playmat! My son started playing with it at about 5-6 weeks and my daughter didn't get into it until later, but now they both love it. I change out the toys a good bit and they will still play with it for 30-60 minutes at a time.

LOVE the playmats - we had two tiny love ones...got them on craigslist for a song, as pp mentioned you can wash it. WE called them the 'crack mats', because teh girls would get so blissed out and stoned looking at everything. I would even sometimes put them in their bouncies ON the mat, near the overhanging things so they could reach and play.

they lasted us til about 5.5 months or so; and before they could roll they were a lifesaver because it bought me 15-20 mins time where icould leave them safely and walk away, and, say, pee and eat something!

wen they're a bit older, exersaucers. I thought we could get by w/one which we got as a figt - NO WAY. also a lifesaver, because it's a safe place to park them and very stimulating.

definitely rattling things. we never did the jumparoo because i was told by doc that they are bad for hip development....although i'm sure if they don't spend too much time in them they're ok.
