I thought babies explored new toys with their mouths?

Mine have never put anything other than their own hand or finger in their mouth. I would like to be able to give them teething biscuits and such as they are teething and I know they would love them, but I am not going to hold it for them.

isnt it strange that they put NOTHING in their mouths?

I don't remember when my kiddos started putting everything in their mouths. But don't worry, the time will come when you ask "Seriously, why do you want to lick the coffee table/floor/toys/highchair/momma glasses/daddy's collar/etcetcetc!?!"

I know all babies are different but when we go to playgroup ALL the babies do it but them. Some of the babies are 2 months younger and they do it. It is so weird to me. I know they are normal babies, Elizabeth crawls and well Thomas is a little too big to do much, but he is a sweet boy.

I was just curious if other babies the same age put thing sin their mouths!

If it makes you feel any better, Meara mouths everything and Ana doesn't as much. She will put the occassional blanket tag in her mouth, but just much prefers to suck her thumb than a toy. Meara doesn't suck her thumb so maybe thats the difference.

That is a bit unusual - mine have been putting things in their mouths ever since they've had the coordination to get things in. Maybe yours are just germophobes?

They hate being dirty - it is true. When I am feeding them and they get some on their faces, they start to cry. It is so weird. They love table food (started at 6 months as per PED) but I am nervous as they cannot feed it to themselves.

They eat whole elbow noodles easily and I was thinking you know they should be able to do this themselves some time soon!

It is so nice when they can self-feed! How's their pincer grasp?

Maybe they just like deluxe service a la mama..."Hey mom, peel me another grape!" :p

My oldest never did. Other kids would pick up crumbs or toys and immediately put them in their mouths and he just wouldn't. He hated having stuff on his hands and would wipe his mouth himself around a year old. It's normal...some kids do, some don't. Honestly, be glad...my 16 month old puts EVERYTHING (seriously, everything) in his mouth. He licks stuff, he bites stuff...gotta taste everything. It's a wonder he's only been sick once with all of the crud he puts in there!

Count your blessings! Sean still puts everything in his mouth. This morning I caught him chewing on a used Kleenex. :bad: He licks the pews at our church and he'll eat anything that's on the floor... anywhere. We were at the mall once and he saw a cracker on the ground and leeeeeeaaaaned out of the stroller to pick it up. He'd just eaten too.

My two didn't start mouthing things until they were about 18 months old. :icon_eek: Before that, it was only their hands/fingers, bottles and food that went in. :pardon: I did worry about it and asked the physical therapist if I should worry and they told me it would happen on it's own...some kids are never big on mouthing things. As for self feeding, that too will come. Mine didn't start until they were about 14 months old. Yours are still pretty young, so they have time to learn these skills. Don't worry momma. :hug99:

glad to know that Beau licking everything is normal... The kitchen floor, the carpet, the fire place protecter, the glass sliding door, our feet, my tennis shoes if they are in reach!... EVERYTHING! Count your blessings... wish he did not do it... LOL... I bet in time they will too... Maybe they dont have the skills just yet... Savannah does put stuff in her mouth but not as much as Beau, he has since he was about 4 months... He even licsk our shoulders... LOL... it is funny but man the germs...

My Lily puts EVERYTHING directly into her mouth and her brother, Jack, does not put much into his mouth at all. It is kind of nice - for example, I can give him a magazine to play with and not worry about him eating it! I never really worried about it much. Lily; however, will eat cheerios and othe table foods whereas Jack is still only on spoon fed baby foods. They are almost 8 mos. so I guess I will start to worry about him self-feeding in a bit. I put the cheerios on his tray everytime Lily gets them but he has yet to put them in his mouth!
