My boys just turned 4 months old and I am very interested to know what kinds of toys I should get them that will be entertaining and helpful for their development.

Right now some of their favs are their activity mat, anything they can hold and stick in their months like teething rings, toy keys, stuffed animals, rattles, etc.

Do you think they are ready for an exersaucer or activity center? They can hold their heads up well but they're still a little wobbly when I put them in their bumbos so I wasn't sure if they would be ready for those things yet.

What are some suggestions that you all have?

    TIA!!! :D

Our boys love the Rainforest Jumperoo. It is by far their favorite thing in the house. They also love anything they can stick in their mouths (teething rings, rattles, etc.). They just recently got the hang of reaching and grabbing things so I put them in their bumbos on their play mat and let them grab at the hanging toys.

this is a good topic. I will be interested in hearing the replies. Right now we just lay in the floor and play with things I hand them. And we look at our entertainment center.

My boys loved their exersaucers at that age, as well as anything they could chew. Toys that made sounds when you touched them were very entertaining.

we have these bear rattles which come attached with really small blankets, and they each have a super soft stuffed animal (a frog and a duck), which they love love love - we have to watch them really carefully but for a little while each morning they get one of these soft toys (which they clutch and hug and then attempt to eat!).

They love their activity mat - more specifically, the light-up, musical part of their activity mat. Anything with lights and sounds . . . like their rainforest waterfall soother, which they watch with complete fascination - i put them both in colby's crib together and kellen clutches colby's arm and they watch this thing over and over again, kicking happily the whole time. they LOVE it!

But I was wondering about the exersaucer and activity center as well - like yours, my babies can hold their heads up pretty well. i just don't know if it is enough. I hope someone has some advice on that!

I put my girls in the walkers around that age - their feet didn't hit the floor - I put pillow under them - not for mobility - but for comfort - so it didn't feel like a massive wedgy :) They enjoyed being upright - but not tied in. the toys on the walker entertained them too. Anything that made sound intrigued them. they loved the baby einstein videos at this age.

    Hi,

My girls are almost five months and for the past month or so the exersaucers have been the absolute favorite toy/activity. We have a Baby Einstein Activity Center and an Evenflo Exersaucer and the girls love both. A this age, the Exersaucer seems to have more for them to do and look at even though the Baby Einstein one seems more educational (perhaps this is just marketing to parents?). We also have some colored Baby Einstein blocks that they love. The blocks are fuzzy and have different pictures and textures on each side. The blocks are a bit big for my girls to hold, but they bat at them and try to hold them.

Haba makes the coolest stuff ever!

The triangle toy is my babies' all-time favorite, and has been for at least a month now. It's the one thing they never seem to get tired of playing with. Originally I'd bought one, and finally caved and bought a second, because they were fighting over it too much.

    I also love Manhattan Toy.

you could try them in the saucer and if they need extra support just roll up a towel or blanket and push it around them to help them sit better, I did that w/ all 3 kiddies b/c they really liked to be sitting up looking around at that age.

Mine loved their gyms...we have the rainforest gym and also the flutterbye dreams gym. They seemed to really enjoy those. Mine never got into the exersaucers. They would sit there and be like....ok....now what? So I have two of them collecting dust now! At least I got them at a garage sale! Also, any kind of teether, rattle, or other soft toy, they would grab and play with.

Mine each have one of these too and do the same thing. It's the cutest thing. At night we turn off the lighted and musical parts and just have that really relaxing rainforest sound. We put them in their cribs drowsy and they fall right to sleep with that going.

What wonderful ideas everyone!!!! I'm also so glad to hear that the exersaucer is ok to use at this age too. I'll have to track a couple down.

We started the exersaucer and bumbos at 4 months and the jolly jumper a few weeks later. At 7 months my house looks like some kind of fun park.

This made me laugh because we call the area with the exersaucers, jumperoo, swings, and bumbo...funland!
