Hi, I am looking for suggestions for a toy chest for our family room since it is also our playroom. I have these cubby shelves from target that I put their little toys and books in and then along the wall, we have their bigger toys. I am sick of looking at those big toys at the end of the night and want to put them somewhere. Do you have a toy chest that you like? I also want it to be easy for the boys to open and get things out of themselves now that they are older. Thanks!

We have one similar to this one. The lid slides up and in the toy box, which is really nice. I would avoid one that has a lid that completely comes off, like this one. We have it and hate it! If you don't completely take it off, it can fall on them, and if you do, you have to have somewhere to put it!

I have most of their toys I don't want them getting into unless I want them to, crayons, books, blocks ect in the top of an armor that matches our other living room furniture. also have a wooden little mermaid one I got from toy's r us as we have a beach theme in our living room. also check out Ikea.com they have tons of family frendily storage.

My parents bought this same one for the girls for Christmas. Of course I don't have it yet and have no feedback for you, but I also started a thread about this and it was the most recommended. :D

We just use the biggest gallon tupperware-type storage bin we could find. It's somewhat hidden from view so it's ugly factor isn't so bad.

That is not a bad idea with using plastic bin (the biggest) for bigger toys to put away. I think I saw some light brown bins somewhere that could blend in our family room. With that I can actually use that for something in the future instead of a toy chest.

    Thanks! Diana w/Rianna and Justin

If you want something that doesn't really look like a toybox, we have a dark wicker type thing I got at Target. Looks nicer than your average toybox. It doesn't look like the same one is available any longer, but maybe something like this?

    Or one of these?

    We bought this for downstairs.

It is sturdy and the hinge keeps the lid up when opened, which keeps fingers from being smashed from the lid dropping. It matches a chair/table mission set as well we really liek. Since it is downstairs we chose one that wasn't as obvious as a toy box and put it in front of the bed in the guest room.

IKEA has a great one that is $99 (CDN). It's antique stained so it's a nice looking piece of furniture and has the friction hinges so no dropping on little fingers. We have one in the diningroom/ upstairs playroom.

We just bought this from Target. It fits lots of the kids toys, and the lid stays up while they dig around in there. I like this because it looks like a piece of furniture.
