What do you have? I'm asking my dad and stepmom to get one for the girls for Christmas and saw several online last night that I like but I can't decide. Step2 Lifestyle Toy Chest Little Tikes Giant Toy Chest White toy box by Jardine
I would go with either the first or 3rd Michelle. If the 2nd one is like my pink Little Tykes toy box, the lid comes completely off and is a pain. Nothing prevents them from slamming their fingers in the lid, or from it falling on them while they are reaching in. We also have one similar to the first one, and I love it!
3rd, you can eventually move it to any room in your house, better chance at resale, plastic ones take up to much space
I bought this last Chirstmas for my girl's bedroom. I really like it, and it looks great in their bedroom. The only issue I have is I can't fit as much as I'd like in it.
I have the first one (w/o the lamp) and I love it. It's easy for the boys to open/close and I don't have to worry about fingers getting caught or pinched and the lid closing on them. My boys do occasionally climb onto and sit but they know they are not allowed so they will do it if I am not paying attention.
We have one from Ikea that matches their furniture. I agree that having one with an attached lid is a good thing! They really do not hold a whole lot. We use ours to hold our Little People sets and a rubbermaid tub of all the Little People and Little People Animals.
I'm looking to Pottery Barn Kids shelves/toys for our family room area and then will move them to Justin's room to match his new big bed sometime next year. If I had to choose, I would go with the 3rd choice but it may not hold all of the toys?
We have toy boxes that my sister personalized for them. She bought some wooden letters at a craft store (i.e. Michael's), painted them, and then glued them on. It's an easy procedure and you can easily match their rooms. I don't know what kind/brand of toy boxes they have, but they're simple ones and I thought the personalization was a nice touch.
We have the white one by Jardine. It is a piece of CRAP! The lid already broke off when Morgan (my not-even-20-pounder at the time) flopped down on his rump while holding the lid. It literally pulled right off. The hinch is still attached but the screws holding it to the bottom pulled right out. I'm taking it back to BRU where I bought it. And, with the decorative detail at the top, you can't put it all the way up against a wall or the lid won't open. I liked the look of the wooden box since it was more like furniture, but I would not recommend this one. Sorry! Shannon

I have the third one too and I would definitely not recommend it. I've had the same problem with the lid coming out of the hinges--due in part to the fact that the kids are constantly opening the lid and slamming it shut as hard as they can. Fortunately I have a handy DH who has so far been able to repair it every time. The kids are constantly climbing on top and jumping off and if you plan on putting any larger toys in there it can only hold a few at a time. It looks great in their room and my living room( I was silly enough to buy two)but definitely not worth it. The first one looks like a good choice. I think I might even consider switching.
I got these for our girls: http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Soft-Sided-Toy...r/dp/B00009RGSX It's cloth, so I don't have to worry about them running into it, and if I ever need to go anywhere, they can fold flat. They actually hold quite a bit of stuff, and are presently working as a great TV blocker. They do tend to look a little lumpy, but they hold together well.
I really can't decide. It depends on your taste and style and what will work in your house. I personally wouldn't worry about resale value but rather quality of it upholding. If it lasts long enough to get your money's worth then you can simply donate it or give it away or use it for storage of some sort. I did think it was very funny on the description of the Little Tykes one that it says Toys not included. Don't know why but that just struck me as hilarious.
We have the Sassy Soft Sided one, too and we love it. My dd falls into it when she's reaching in for toys and I don't have to worry about her getting hurt.
Michelle, I say the first or third one. I like the look of the third one much better but was wondering about their fingers getting shut in it easily.
geez I must be a cheap skate as I use totes lol They have 5 totes full of toys. One stays in the livingroom and 2 are currently in our new bedroom. I rotate them out as they think "oh new toys" and will play for hours with them. My oldest has 2 nice big wooden toy boxes my dad got free from a company (he's a truckdriver) then I have a plastic one with the lid that comes off full of my 5 yr olds stuff. He also has a CARS toy bin. I cant part with the platic toy box as it was bought by my great grandmother the year before she died for my oldest. I like the totes because I can stack and store and not worry about them being in the way.
We have one similar to the 3rd but it was purchased at Target (of course). Here it is http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=s...asin=B000ES3ZYG we got it back in July and the girls have upt it through the ringer but it is great. Sturdy and holds lots of toys.
