When I thought things couldn't get much worse after my PUPPS rash outbreak, I got a toothache with a possible abscess. I cannot believe I have a problem my teeth since at my last two regular check ups they said everything was perfect and I am meticulous about oral hygiene... AHHHH!!! I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with going to the dentist at 35 weeks pregnant. As well, what drugs and pain relievers are safe? I haven't touched any sort of drug, not even Tylenol, this whole pregnancy and in the last week I had to start using a cortisone cream for the PUPPS and now I'm sure I'll have to have some drugs to have this tooth taken care of. I am calling my dentist at 9:00 this morning to see if he'll see me this morning because I can't wait to see him at my scheduled check up next Friday. Sorry for the complaining, ladies, but I've been up since 1:00 and I'm at my wits end dealing with this and didn't want to wake my husband up. Oh, I may as well update you all on my rash, it's now spreading at an alarming rate and will probably be covering my whole stomach region by the end of today. The good news is the cortisone cream does take the itching away, and in between applications, I have some success with cold compresses and zinc creams. Thanks for all your suggestions on dealing with that problem...
I am not sure about what the dentist will do but wanted to send a big  your way ~ a hurting tooth & itchy stomach is NOT fun at all!! I hope you feel better soon ~
Hey Girl! I was in Dental Hygiene School for 1.5 years, only one semester to go, until I got pregnant with these babies, I am taking a break right now. Try not to stress about it because stress can make the abscess worse. You may have had the best oral hygiene but pregnancy causes your body to go all out of wack. This is very common in pregnant women to get an infection and result in having an abscess tooth...trust me, I too have always had great teeth and gingiva (gums) I know all the correct ways to brush, floss etc.... I now have slight gingivitits (bleeding gums while brushing and flossing) out of no where and know it is due to the pregnancy. Try putting Orajel on the site of the abscess, it is safe and you can get the baby orajel if it makes u feel better. It will numb the area and help you feel better till you can get into your dentist. Good luck, I know you will be fine!
Just make sure you take care of it and if it is an infection, alert your OB. Infections anywhere in pregnancy can have funny issues attached to them, so it's important for your OB to know, even though it is a dental issue. And I've apparently got a SMALL (size of a quarter) PUPPPS rash.... and boy, am I dreading when it spreads. My ob's having me take benadryl orally for it, and that has toned it down FAR more than the cream... but he also warned that it can progress for no apparent reason and that what WAS working might stop working, as its a crazy rash. I feel for you having so much of it! You can do it, momma! Dominique
Thank you so much for your support. I am glad to report I called my dentist and he put me on penicillin of some sort, and while it hasn't given me immediate relief, I know it will which really helps. My pharmacist said it is safe for pregnancy and I looked it up online and it says the same. I will be letting my OB know on Wednesday and hopefully everything will be all right. In the meantime I've been putting cloves on it etc etc... but I am going to run out to the drug store now and buy some orajel. I am so glad you suggested it! Dominique, I know what you are going through. My rash began slowly on the bottom of my stomach where my stretch marks are and now, a bit over a week later, it covers my whole stomach area. I just hope and wish for your sake it doesn't get too bad. However, after having both the toothache and the PUPPS, I think I can deal with the PUPPS over the toothache any day. I never would have thought I'd say that but toothaches are the worst.

Thanks for all your suggestions on dealing with that problem... I'm so sorry you have to go through this!!! I had a dentist appt around 16 weeks and it was determined that I had a tooth that needed to come out (a wisdom tooth) and that it could possibly abscess --- well, unlucky enough for me it did just about 2 weeks later (oh the pain!!) and I had to get on antibiotics for a week and then have it pulled. Once it abscessed, the pain went from bad to intolerable in a matter of hours and they put me on tylenol 3 (hydrcodone -- non synthetic). I could not have made it without it, and after a few days the antibiotics were working well enough that i didn't need the pain pills. For the tooth removal, i only got the local, but i saw an oral surgron who was equipped to handle anything that could go wrong with me. He had the tooth out in under a minute. I had been hoping to wait until after my girls were born so i could be put under, but no such luck! I was already really large when I got it pulled and was able to lay propped on my side to relieve pressure. Good luck!! jen
 Novacain, what dentists numb with, is ok with pregnancy. I had an abs tooth when I was 6 months an had it pulled. Till then baby orajel helped but the full strength adult was better. Its the same dentists use to numb your skin before they needle you with the novacain. Hope you feel better soon!
