Too young to make strange?

Our girls will be 6 months old this Friday. They seem to be making strange already. They don't do it with everyone though - some strangers they are fine with, others they are not. Some family members they are fine with, some they are not.

Is it too early to make strange? It is not that they have led a completely sheltered life so far. We got out a lot and see people (i.e. malls), we have been to a multiples playgroup a few times, we have friends over often with & without kiddies etc. I feel like I am to blame that they are making strange so young. Supposedly (as per what I have been told) most babies don't make strange until around 9-12 months old.

Not too early at all. Emma would cry if someone even looked at her at that age! Even family members!

No, I don't think it's to young either. My dd has been crying everytime she sees a few family members since around 6 months, and she sees them a few times a week!

The girls are doing the exact same thing. Violet actually did it to the doctor at her 6 month check up and though the doctor noted it was a little early for strangeness (usually seen more around 9 months) she said it was nothing to worry about. I was a little worried though, so thanks for bringing it up.

Mine have been doing for about 3 weeks now, they are usually very happy girls. But sometimes people just have to look at them, and they start crying, and look at me as if to say "MOM get rid of these people"

Chloe started getting stranger anxiety around 6 and a half to 7 months and it was bad! It took her until she was 10 and a half months old to start getting over it.

Not too early at all! Sean started having stranger anxiety at 7-8 months. James is friends with everybody.

Well DS will smile at anyone who talks to him and will let anyone hold him with no problems (hes our little ham). DD on the other hand will start pouting if someone she doesn't recognize even looks at her or talks to her. My dad went on a trip for a couple weeks and when he came back she screamed as soon as she saw him and didn't want anything to do with him. Poor grandpa :( I think it was around 4 months or so that she started that so from what I've heard she started very early but I guess each baby is different. I've tried not to look at the 'normal' time for them to start doing things because if I did I would probably go nuts, Oh wait I already have so dont need to add any more to it.

I read this thread yesterday while I was at work, and thought to myself, my sweet little grandsons will NEVER do this to me! Well last night dd was coming over and I begged her to bring one of the boys which she did. He freaked out on me... He kept looking around the room for his mommy! When he would hear her voice he would stop.. When I handed him back to her he sat on her lap and laughed at me! He was fine with me as long as SHE was holding him :) It was cool, it was first time I really got to see her being "the mommy"... I'm so proud of her!
