Too warm for sleep sacks?

We are thinking we need to transition away from the sleep sacks as the babies are waking up sweaty from naps. What do you do at this age for naps/bedtime?

(DS sleeps exactly where you place him....DD generally flips multiple times in her crib, often ending up in strange positions.)

It was 100 degrees here yesterday. It looks like we are "graduating" our boys out of sleepsacks and sleepers and putting them only in lightweight onesies for the summer. We did it last night and they slept great, even with being ill.

There's no rule, as you know. I'd say just do whatever works for you, even if they sleep in just a diaper. You know your babies best. :)

Liz, I saw "100 degrees", and I thought "I wonder if she lives in CA too?" Yep...

My older son won't sleep unless he's got his favorite towel and two blankets tucked in. He's completely sweaty after his afternoon nap, but he doesn't want it any other way.

The twin babies like to be swaddled, so we put them in bed naked with a very light blanket loosely swaddled.

We used the cotton sleep sacs when it was warm outside, with just a onesie underneath.

I'm going to keep an eye on this one -- I tried to take mine out of sleep sacks for one day this week and both of them took horrible naps. It may have been just coincidence, but who knows....

I am trying to get them used to little blankies at the moment. Thought maybe we can transition from sleep sacks to a security blanket. They love their sleep sacks though -- I notice they like to bite the top of them (strange, but they both do it)...maybe it's a comfort thing.

That's a good point! I saw this coming during a heat wave a couple of months ago. One of my boys loves to snuggle his face against something soft and both like holding onto somehting when ehty go to sleep. I was giving them a flatfold cloth diaper to hold and that works great. Ronan started loving the fuzzy blankets we used for traveling around in the winter and he would nap with it and at night I'd let him fall asleep with it then sneak it away 15 minutes later. I found a couple of toys at Ikea that they LOVE that are just the animal heads with a mini "blanket" attached. The "blanket" on these is nothing more than like a hankie and it's really small. I feel better letting the boys hold these through the night. Since giving this one to Ronan he has gotten really good at falling asleep and soothing himself back to sleep.

I also bought a yard of silk chiffon and made a couple of soft security blankies out of it for them. They love them and they are really light-weight for summer, and natural fabric and breathable.

    Just some ideas.

I'm really glad the boys are fine sleeping in their onesies. We don't do formal naps, though. They just nap whenever and wherever they want. They're pretty consistent with it, and perhaps that's the wrong thing for me to do, but it seems to work much better for us than me having to put them somewhere at a specific time - that has always resulted in sleep issues with my guys.

Another melting California family here! We used them today for the morning “nap” which wasn’t very successful. I tried with the fan on, but no dice.

I’m curious to see what others have figured out. I’m dreading a summer of this if it’s already hitting 100 degrees in April!

When the weather has gotten superhot in the summer, we used the cotton sleep sacks with onesies, like Trish did. I hope the weather cools down for you California mommies!

Oh my, we are going through the same thing this week. The night before last DH checked on one of the girls and decided to take her out of her sleepsack, she was burning up. But that night and for her naps the next day she didn't sleep well. But last night they both had to sleep without them because of the weather and it was fine and right now they are both sleeping great for their 9:00 nap (so it took a day to get used to).
However, I still ordered the cotton sleepsacks because it seems to give them a signal that it's time for bed. I'm probably going to keep them off for their naps going forward and save them for nighttime since they tend to kick off their blanket and it makes me feel better that they have something to cover them up.
