I can't seem to get our boys to stay asleep for naptime for longer than an hour... any one else have this problem at this age? I know they are tired and then they wake each other up. Any ideas? [IMG]

If they are cobedding you could try separating them. We had to separate our boys when they kept each other awake and wouldn't continue to sleep... Also depending on how many naps they are taking an hour might be okay...at that age adjusted ours were still taking 3-4 naps a day, two of them were only 30minutes, one was 1 1/2 hours and the other 2 hours...

i got the best advice from a post that was written here a month or two ago.

Here is the Very unscientific explanation!: Someone talked about the fact that the sleep cycle lasts 45 minutes and people naturally wake up around that time. So it was suggested to put them back to sleep.

I now go in and humm and pat them when i hear them waking up. I think it is important to get to them right when they begin to wake up. Once they have woken up and are crying for a while, it will be harder to get them back to sleep. I think you should anticipate them waking and stay by theem so you can get them back to sleep as soon as you see them waking.

After reading that post, it became so obvious for me that they were still tired. THere is a rare occasion when i go to them after they awake after sleeping for 40 minutes and they have a huge smile on their face...then i know i cant put them back to sleep but if they are crying with their eyes closed, most of the time they can be put back to sleep.

Most of the time, my boys nap in different rooms. One in their crib in their room and the other often naps in the swing in the family room.

Good luck. Short naps are terrible for everyone!!!

Mine take 3 40 minute naps a day. They are 5 months. I go in after an hour and they are just laying in thier cribs smiling and talking at the ceiling. I am always greeted with huge smiles. I figure as they age they will be staying awake longer and maybe then 2 longer naps will naturally evolve.

My nephew does this, but he's about a 40 min. guy. He's got me baffled beyond repair!! I'm astonished by him because neither of mine did this! He's SOOOOO tired, but will rarely take a long nap (he did it for me about 1 x a week....his parents are baffled as well!)

My boys are short nappers, and DD was at this age, too. Eventually, she started taking longer naps, but I think it was closer to 8 or 9 months. Her morning nap would be 45 minutes long and her afternoon nap would be 45-90 minutes long. I just never knew.

Braydon never naps longer than 45 minutes. Ever. Parker will sometimes take a longer morning nap (60-90 minutes), but that doesn't happen often. I have no idea when we'll be dropping that 3rd nap, but it doesn't seem like it will be anytime soon. [IMG]

You could always put him to bed a bit earlier, sometimes when babies get overtired they don't sleep as well. [IMG]
