What is everyone's opinion about if the weather is too cold to take the kids out... even if it's just in/out of car to house? Just wondering people's take on that...

We went out yesterday, but today it is even colder. We're hibernating all weekend. IF we had to, I would, but I am a homebody, so they're staying in all weekend. There is just a point where it just isn't worth it.

I live just 30 minutes north of you. I planned on going to this local fun fair but ended up not due to their naps today but since my car is in the garage, i thought i would only have to take them in and out 2 times and since they are still in their infant carriers, they can be totally protected with their bundle me and blankets.

I asked my ped at their 4 month app about taking kids out in the cold and he said it was fine...he actually said you ahve to make sure you dont over heat them with blankets!!

Also looking forward to everyones take. THe wind is crazy here today!

I take the babies out every day, we have to walk my oldest to school. We bundle up and I use the sling (keeps bodyheat!)

I think it depends on where you're going. If it's someplace you HAVE to go versus someplace you want to go I think it makes a difference.
I'll take them out just for some air if it's in the upper 30's but any colder than that only if it's somewhere I really need to go. I think you'll get lots of opinions on this depending on where people live. 30 degrees may not be too cold to someone who lives in Minnesota but to someone who lives in Florida it's absolutely frigid [IMG]
I live in NY BTW, so to me it's not too cold [IMG]

I live in Chicago.. it'll be high of 5 tomorrow (sun) with low of -6 and windchills in -20's. We have a superbowl invitation to go to... and we could probably go pretty close to door to door. I am not sure what to do...or if I am just finding another excuse not to go out in general.

I am in Chicago as well. Way too cold. We went to Target yesterday (temp was 8 degrees). Today it's colder and a lot more wind. Not worth going out with the twins. My oldest has been out though just for a little bit.

Too cold here in Kansas too! I'm starting to get cabin fever, but I'm not chancing it. A big factor for me isn't just the cold, because as someone said, they wouldn't really be exposed that much with the going through the garage etc...but it is all the crazy drivers out there. We still have some icey streets & I don't want to be in an accident, leaving the kids to wait around for help in or out of the car!

    Come on spring!

I'm in the Chicago suburbs as well - with a high of 4 and a windchill of negative 20 tonight, we will not be leaving the house - even for the Superbowl! (GO BEARS!) Once the temperature stayed below 30 degrees consistently, I never take them out anymore unless I have to. But especially not this weekend!

I think it is too cold to take them out. I really wanted to take them out tomorrow because Elmo is going to be at a local store for his birthday book tour, but we're going to skip it. It's supposed to be like 3 tomorrow...burr!

I live in Mionnesota...12 below today...with out the wind chill. Babies went out. The doctor said it is actually good for them to get fresh air and clear their lungs. Just bundle them up warm.

it is germs that cause sickness not the cold so yes wrap them up so that they are comfy and take them out!

I wondered the same thing!! I am in Chicago, too! It is supposed to be a HIGH of 1 degree tomorrow. I think we are going skip the Superbowl party too... [IMG] But, GO BEARS!!!

If it's really really cold (single digits or below) and windy or wet, I might say stay in, assuming it's only an occasional thing. But you can't stay cooped up inside all winter. That's why they make sweaters, and booties, and blankies!

I have been dying to get the girls out but here lately, the temps are in the low to mid 20's. It is so cold that I dont even want to go out! I cant wait for spring!

I would take them from the house to the car in any weather. (Well OK, maybe not if it was 20 below and blizzarding -- but 5 degrees, sure.) I don't like driving when the roads are snowy & icy, but that's not a temperature issue.

I don't take them for walks or stroller rides if it's below 30 or so. When they are older and can run around, it will be different, but I worry about them getting too cold just sitting there. There's no danger being outside for 2 minutes to get to the car. I hate being cooped up!
