Brendan's toenails seem to be growing upwards instead of out. It is on his big toe of each foot. Someone said this could be due to wearing socks that are too tight (He has chunky feet). I was wondering if anyone experienced this and if there is anything I can do. I am more concerned for when he starts wearing shoes. They are very awkward to cut as well.

My ped said that's genetic. all three of my kids have funny toenails. They grow UP and will crack/peel if they get neglected for long. Lily's toe nails are also thick...not horrible, but kind of like an old person's nails like there's a fungus or something there. They've always been like that and the ped said not to worry about it.

Who knows! I know I was no help, but at least you know it's not just your little ones!

My kids toe nails are all jacked up as infants/toddlers, but tehy grow out of it.
Berkley's are normal now, but were just like her brothers when she was a baby.
They grow in funny ways I think for a while, it seems normal to me.
I just try and keep them as short as I can get them.

That's what Ainsley's are like. I wonder if it's because I've never trimmed the cuticules. It's hard enough trimming her nails, let alone pushing down the cuticules and all that. Her toenails look pretty funky. Bea also has the thick nails on her big toes. Glad someone else posted that it was normal.

Yes, Beau had a thick toenaikl until about 2.5 yrs old, on a pinky toe.
I called it his Frankenstein toenail, I just kept cutting it as short as I could and it eventually grew out.
No need to worry about cuticles this young.

My boys refuse to let me cut thier toe nails. I try, but the fight ans squirm. Because of that, they bend a little up and rip a bit. They look funky too, but there is not much I can do about it...socks hide them most of the time, but I know summer will be here!!
