Toddlers in booster seats

My twins are almost 2. About a week ago we moved them to booster seats. I read a few people post on here that food throwing became less of a problem after moving kids to booster seats. That has not been the case with my DD, although DS is doing pretty well. Now DD just chucks her whole plate on the floor and sometimes her brother's too. We are doing automatic time outs for this offense and the meal ends as well. (We use 1-2-3 Magic). The problem is continuing despite the time outs. Usually she doesn't throw her plate until the end of the meal, but I still don't like the idea of wasting food and getting the floors all messy. We have taught her that she should push her tray away or give it to mommy when she is done. She seems to understand what she is supposed to do. Should I give it more time or move her back to her highchair?

When we went through this stage, it helped to just put the food directly on the table. We also gave much smaller portions and if they finished we would ask if they wanted more. It helped A LOT with the food waste issue. :)

Yeah, I'd give it more time and keep reinforcing the behavior you want to see. My guys moved to boosters at 2 years, and it was certainly no magic bullet. In fact, Nate still likes to sweep his entire plate off the table when he's near the end of the meal. <_< It's gotten a lot better, but when he gets that look in his eye, I have to give him a warning or remove his plate.

We had pretty good luck using food time-outs. If you throw food, it goes away for a few minutes. If you continue, the meal is done. Like the PP I also give small amounts of food, and give them more when they ask. When all else fails, we call the "cleaning crew" (the family dog). ;)

Ditto the others. I gave smaller amounts so they were still hungry by the time their plate was empty, and then I would dish out just a very small amount more, at least then if they threw it, it wasn't much at all.

But I also paid more attention to them when they were eating, and when they got that "look" that they were done, and were getting ready to toss things, I'd take their plates away.

We moved to boosters at 16 months, and now at 22 months they don't throw plates anymore, although they do sometimes drop food they don't want on the floor, and sometimes cups get tossed still. Now, however, Rylee likes to shove her plate so far it pushes against the other kids plates on the other side of the table! It's a work in progress! :)
