Toddler mittens?

Last winter I bought some toddler mittens on closeout. They seemed great with a velcro enclosure. However, we used them for the first time recently and the darn things would NOT stay on. The velcro was not adjustable so we couldn't really close them up tight. The only thing I liked about them was that they were water resistant and seemed very soft and warm. I bought some 99 cent knit toddler gloves from Target that stayed on their hands better (not that their fingers were in the finger holes correctly though!) but when they fell in the snow their hands would get wet. Anyway, just wondering if anybody has had any luck finding some decent toddler mittens (or gloves) that stay on. Our boys just turned 19 months old today, if that helps. TIA!

LOL! I haven't even been able to get to the point of discovering whether they stay on because the minute I put something on their hands they use their teeth to pull them off and throw them on the ground! Good luck, and if anyone has tricks for convincing toddlers to actually wear their hats and mittens, let me know!

I'd like to know that mystical secret too  Their mittens always "fall" off (if you ask my kids, they fell off but if you ask me, the kids took them off)...

Saw this in the "view new posts" list and got a giggle. My sister is a toddler day care teacher (and I dress toddlers for outside during my work day) and I have yet to find mitts that stay on. I will say, I hate hate hate the mitts that go up to the elbow that you put on before the jacket. They "fall" off too and are a pain to put back on while outside.

You could safety pin them to the coat cuff on both sides. They can wriggle out of the space but the mitten is still there and you can get them back in easier. Mitten clips work the same way. (we are discouraged from using string mittens - they stretch out anyway)

Or there is always duct tape ;)

We bought these http://www.diapers.com/product/productdetail.aspx?productid=8353 and they work great....Even if they can get them off, which is a little tough because pulling one side makes the other side tighter, they don't get lost. You string them through the sleeves and the string is in the back of the coat when the child has the coat on...tough to explain, but I hope this makes sense...

ETA - The sizing says 0-12 months. We bought them last year when our girls were about 14 months old, they fit then and they still fit now. They aren't water resistent though, but they do keep the chill off their fingers.

I still haven't found a pair of mittens that will stay on and my boys are well over 2! My guys don't spend long periods of time outside when it's cold, so I just usually try to put mittens on, and if they "fall off" I put them in my pocket. :pardon:

I got little Scott (ski brand) mittens that are waterproof and insulated and they work great... They do however fall off eventually if they are digging in the snow, etc. I have finally figured out to put a rubberband around each wrist (the thick ones that come on bunches of brocolli work great). Just make sure it's not too tight & cutting off circulation or you'll have even bigger problems :)! GL!
