I have moved my boys to toddler beds. Lincoln just started climbing out of his so I figure it is time. How do I get them to sleep in them. They just keep getting up. It was different with my DD because she was not napping at the time we switched her. Any ideas and what works? Is it harder with 2 to do this?

We just did our routine and closed the door. The first week it was insane but they still feel asleep after a while.

We just made the transition two weeks ago! Not only that but put them in the same room (they've been apart since they were 5 months old. The first night they giggled for an hour and a half and later around 2am I woke up to screaming...one had gotten up and started playing and ended up bumping her head (from what I could get out of her). I just did their normal routine and closed the door. The naps and night time got better very fast as soon as I took out the doll house, chairs and books. Also I put in a night light for the first time, but that got removed to after a couple of nights, too much light gave them the freedom to roam.

I'm pretty strict, they know that "I can hear you if you get up so stay in bed" and "don't talk, you're keeping sissy awake" and the final "stay in bed or I'll take your blanky". Luckily this all pretty much ended within week one. They are 3 now so I also think the later the better.

The first two weeks went fantastic, we did their normal routine, and I'm not even sure they realized they could get out of bed!

Then Liam discovered he could get up. Which taught Rylee.

And we had one night where they would NOT stay in bed. After 2 hrs I finally set up a pnp. I put them in it, and put his paci's, and his stuffies, on their beds. Told them if they wanted their paci's and their "guys", they had to stay in bed. It only took a couple tries for Rylee to learn, Liam was a little more stubborn. After several nights, he was going straight to sleep again.

We had a little sleep regression right before we went to the beach a few weeks ago, I just set up the pnp again and it only took 1 night for them to learn. Now, before bed, I ask them what happens when they get up, and Rylee always says "Ry-ry, packplay, no guys, no suck's".

Remove everything from the room. Make the room as safe as possible. Let them sleep anywhere & explore that freedom, but door closed. Get some of those safety doorknob things too.
We did the change to toddler beds at 26 months. At 27 months we had to seperate them to seperate rooms.
They thought each other's bed was their bed too. I had a month of sleeping on the floor between them as ref.
Good luck! And don't turn back!

just DON'T do it!! just kidding... I really struggled at 2 yrs old trying to do it, and it just didn't work for me, so the tents went back on. now at 3 yrs my ds is in a toddler bed, but my dd is in a crib... though shamelessly, we let her crawl in and out at will... I'm sure I should convert hers... there are just times it's nice to be able to zip her up!

Thanks for all of the awnsers. I transitioned them both because the one who could get out was climbing into his brother's crib. The do explore and get a little mad but they always land in their beds to sleep. So far it is going well.
