Ok so here is my dilemma. I just caught Logan attempting to climb out of the crib. He is a climber and all he has to do is get his footing right and up and over he will go. Crib tents are not an option, they would freak out with the feeling of being confined to that extent. They will be 17 months at the end of this month. When did you all or when do you plan on switching to toddler beds. I am going back and forth in my mind on if I should attempt it or not, but my biggest fear is logan will figure it out (almost came close to this today) and end up falling out head first and breaking his neck. Any thoughts?

WE SURVIVED OUR FIRST NIGHT! Logan did absolutely great. Slept all night long. Dakota fell out of bed twice, and the second time he was up for about an hour then went back to sleep. A bit miserable today for the lack of sleep since they went to bed an hour later, up through the night, and up an hour earlier than normal. But all in all it went better than I could have expected! Thank you all for your advice and support!

My DD jumped out of her crib one night 1t 19mos. We immediately converted her crib to a toddler bed. My son tried climbing out of his crib at 23 mos. We immediately went out and bought him a toddler bed as his crib didn't convert. I wouldn't take any chances. We thought about getting them twin beds, but they seemed kind of high off the floor. Toddler beds are actually a good transition because they sit low to the floor. We didn't worry about them falling out and hurting themselves. The hardest part about switching them from the crib to the toddler beds was keeping them in the bed. At first, you may have to get a baby gate. Eventually, they get that they are supposed to stay in bed. We are going to get them queen size beds instead of twin beds. That is what I had when I was little, and I liked my queen bed [IMG]. Now I have to be on a king in order to feel like I have as much room [IMG].

    Good luck

I think that is what I am going to do. I was ready to have heart attack just seeing him haning over the edge let alone if he would have fallen out all together. He did before but that was my fault leaving the side down. Any ideas on how to get them to learn to stay in bed?

Personally, I would try the crib tents before switching to a toddler bed. I think you will have a hard time getting him to understand staying in bed. You can always try the tents and return them if it doesn't work out.

I personally would go straight to the toddler bed. All four of my kids were out of cribs well before 2 with little to no major issues. I haven't found that staying in bed is a hard concept for my kids anyway, I know that there are others who would disagree with me. My Zach is the only one who has a tendancy to get out of bed at night. He is also my super high energy boy and since an infant has needed to "bounce" himself to sleep.

Now, we moved before any of the kids tried to climb out of their cribs. We needed the crib and so we moved them - at least with the older two. Since getting the older two out of the crib at 15 and 20 months, we decided to do the same with the twins. Again, we just didn't have any issues with it.

We moved our boys WAY too early. We were so excited to use the toddler beds (they looked so cute) that we moved them just shy of 12 months. There was a rough adjustment period, them not wanting to stay in bed and having to sit with them forever, etc.

When we had our first DD we decided to leave her in a crib until it was absolutely neccesasary to move her to a bed. She started climbing out a couple weeks ago so we made the switch, and she's not much better than her brothers were!

I'd say if you aren't comfortable with the idea of him falling of of his crib, go ahead and move him to a toddler bed. It took a couple weeks for my guys to get the hang of staying in bed, but after that it was nice. We had taken them to the store and bought them new bedding, their favorite character at that age was Elmo so they got Elmo bedding. They loved it - and I think it made them feel like big boys.

Well we did it! I went out and bought them "big boy' bedding for thier toddler beds. (our cribs transition to a toddler bed so we just used that) I though I would be in for a rough start, but once I tucked them in they fell right to sleep. We will see how the night goes through the night and tomorrow morning. Hopefully though this is a good sign and they will adjust well.

Glad to hear they did so well!!! My girls are definitely climbers, but they haven't actualyl attempted the crib yet! So, I'm thankful for that...they LOVE their cribs, so I think that's a plus!

Nice hearing it went great. My kids have been in twin beds for ages and still fallout a bit. We placed a crib mattress there in between the beds to catch them. Usually its Lauren..she falls and doesn't even wake up now.

Key to success is key telling them bed are not for playing in...right from the beginning do not let them stay up and play(even if its easier). Down the down you'll have more hair from this.
