I've been slow to introduce finger foods. They've done puffs fine the last couple months, but I'm not as worried about those because I know they dissolve. Just recently we've done cheerios and some banana pieces. This morning I decided to try toast. I read something on here about cutting them in strips, so that's what I did. But bigger pieces than I felt comfortable with kept coming off in their mouths. By this point they were soggy anyway, but I was constantly fishing it out of their mouths, because I was too scared. I don't know that they actually got to eat any of it. Would it have been better to just cut up tiny pieces on their tray, or are the strips fine and the big pieces will eventually dissolve? The pieces were about nickel size they were getting. If I were cutting them on their tray, I'd probably cut that in fourths.

Do you put anything on the toast? It probably was pretty dry and gross. Maybe I should have put some pureed fruit on it?

I have a book I try to refer to when introducing new foods. So far it has been no help, it's too long, I hate the way it's put together and I think the information is dated. I just went to look up toast in the index and it wasn't even in there. I seriously found "toilet bowl ring" under T, but no toast??

It sounds like tiny pieces on their tray might be better for right now. At 12 months, I was able to cut a piece of toast in half and give one half to each baby. They would just take bites at a time :). So, soon they'll be able to do that. I always give toast dry and it has been well received. You can always put fruit or fruit preserves on the toast. GL!

I haven't done it yet but is putting butter on the toast bad?

I used to do the strips like you described too and they would basically gum them until they were really soggy and so by the time some was broken off I think it was too soggy to choke on. My girls love plain toast with butter. I put the butter for extra calories and I also put a little bit of jelly or peanut butter too

Mine LOVE dry toast. I take one piece, cut off the crusts and then cut it into four triangles. Each baby gets two (unless they are really hungry and I make a full piece for each of them). My pedi said no peanut butter before 2 due to high level of allergy to it- but puree'd fruit would be ok. They just like it plain though.

I rip toast into bite sized pieces and we've put butter, cheese, pureed fruit/jelly on it. The monkeys love it.

Any breads, I'd rip off the crusts and tear the bread into very small pieces with my fingers (like the size of my pinky fingernail or smaller).

I cut mine in strips. But they are thin strips - like fettucini pasta thin. that way they have something to hold while they gum them.
Once they are soggy (which is pretty quick) I dont worry about choking. Do your twins have teeth?

I usually put butter on my ds toast and cut it into bite size pieces. He loves it. Sometimes I put a bit of jelly on the bread he does not like that as much as plain butter.

I give it dry. They get cinnamon raisin toast and love it, one of their favorite foods. I cut off the cuts and cut it into four triangles, they each end up with two triangles.
