To send to school or not

Both of my boys have been sick for weeks it seems. They were started on one antibiotic about two weeks ago for bilateral ear infections and sinusitis. We most recently took them to the doctor this past Friday and they were put on another antibiotic. My one son now has what they call mycoplasma bronchitis. He also developed these weird hives that he still has a little bit even today. However, despite being sick they are playing and acting fairly normal. So my question is...do I send them to preschool? They only go two days a week. The only policy I'm aware of at the school is that they have to be fever free 24 hours if they have a fever. I just don't know what to do. I don't know if I'll be doing them any harm taking them verses keeping them home to rest. Thanks!

If it were me, I would keep him home. :good: Do you celebrate Christmas? If so, it's going to be a busy weekend so you want him to be fully rested for it!

I hope they feel better soon!

I agree with Michelle. If it were me, I would probably keep them home until they were done with the antibiotic. Especially with the holidays coming. I hope your boys are feeling better soon!

I think I would keep them home for their own immune systems sake. You wouldn't want them to be exposed to something new on top of what they have been battling with for the last few weeks. Sounds like they are on the rebound though! I hope everyone feels perfectly before Christmas!

Doctors are usually fairly good at recommending when lo's can go back to school. Can you call the pediatrician and ask him or her for an opinion?

Thanks everyone! I ended up keeping them home today and actually took them back to the doctor's. Thankfully she said both are improving and could return to school on Thursday. They only would go this one day and then the school is closed next week. I think I will send them because they are really excited about taking their presents to their teachers! Hopefully they won't catch anything new and we can have sick fee Christmas!

    Thanks again!

Good decision! They'll get lots of rest (ha, because boys at that age "rest" right ;) ) and feel ready to bounce in there with their prezzies!! I hope it's a sick free Christmas for you too!
