    Hi all!

Some of my friends have told me not to use rhyming names, and others have said they think that's really cute. I was wondering what you all thought of this. I've been trying to come up with names for my twins due in sept (we find out gender monday) and I'm really open to advice.

    Thanks!

My vote is not. Seems sing-songy and too "twinny". Just my opinion.

I personally would not, and did not, use rhyming names for my twins (or kids in general).

I would not have them rhyme either. we did same letter but that is as twinsy as I would go

We also did same letter but not rhyming. Go with what you like. To each his own.

I would also say no to the rhyming names. I'm a twin myself and our names are completely different (thank goodness!) Growing up a twin, you're in the spotlight a lot so having names that rhyme would bring more attention (and not necessarily good attention). That is just my opinion, though and everyone is entitled to their own. Congratulations on your twins and have fun finding out their genders on Monday!

Were trying to decide on names for our twins too, and I don't like the whole "rhyming" thing either.

That said, my grandma went back in family history a ways and said she found two twin sisters named, get this...........Buehla Ethel and Uehla Bethel!!! :rotflmbo:

I'm not a fan of rhyming names, but what matters is what you think! You're the one who's going to be saying them all the time. :D

I vote no as well. It's too "twinsy" to me. I figure that our twins will be lumped together as one often enough that I don't want people confusing their names or thinking their names are cute and twin-like. But that's just me...

I say no - only because I would probably mess their names up way too much (half of the time Sarah is Ta-Sarah and Tab is Sa-Tabby as it is!)

I think it is pretty cute, depending on how close they are. Sarah and Austin are nothing alike, but for our oldest, our second girl's name was Sarah and our boy's name was Austin, so we just "recycled" the names.

We found out Austin was a boy before we found out Sarah was a girl, and Austin was our first boy name. But if Sarah was a girl, she'd be Logan (but of course, Logan went on to be our 2nd son). It some little ways Austin and Logan connect, even now and if they turned out to be b/b they'd be: Austin from Boston and Logan the airport (hehe!)

No, I probably wouldn't do it, but I usually hear this advice from people who aren't in charge of naming twins or anything. I just wanted to see what ya'all thought of it. When I was little me and my cousin use to say things like "if I ever have twins I'd name them..." and I've met a lot of people who can come up with really fun, cute, or just funny twin names off the top of their head and it's been really fun for me to just ask my friends and family for ideas even if all of them aren't 100% serious. (I also found out who in my family was no fun about it, one person was like "Let's just see what they are first, then we can think about names" some people just can't have fun!) One of my older brothers had the best input with Left and Right. My DH has been kicked off the naming committee by still standing by his name choices of Frik and Frak. (To his credit, he didn't come up with it, a co-worker did. Every other co-worker says "No way" to it.) I do like the sound of Alias and Anonymous, but only because it's the avoidance of names. I wouldn't actually do it!

But seriously, I've had a hard time with names because my DH won't let me use family names, plus, as many of you have said, it's hard to find a name both me and DH agree on. Girl names come a little easer for me, but not having family names to tap into for boys really puts me at a handicap. Anyway, Sorry to be so long winded and all.

Alice is at the top of my list. I've always loved the name, but need a three syllable name as a middle name in order for it to flow right with my last name which only has one.

Kelly Dianne is my other choice for a girl, and I've had to fight not to get Dianne vetoed. (DH says no 'cause it's my MIL middle name. If we cut out all the first names of family members, then all the middle names, we're left with nothing!)

Anyway, sorry for the long post! but gees! This is hard!

We decided to just go with two names we loved, names that we would use if they were singletons

If you use your MIL's middle name - is that going to cause problems with your mom? We had the opposite problem, I wanted to use my mom's middle name, just becuase I really liked it w/Hannah, not really to name her after my mom. I did not want to use MIL's middle name for Natalie, so we didn't use either.

    And yes, it is HARD!!!

    Good Luck :icon_biggrin:

My mom's too cool to let stuff like that bug her. Besides, my brother's wife is having a girl in June and last I heard they were going to use the family name: Vivian. It's my G-grandmother's name, and my mom's but my mom always went by her middle name, so she gave it to me because she liked it so much. I hope they do end up using it. It would mean so much to my mom for her first grandbaby to be named after her!

At any rate I need the brownie points with my MIL. The truth be told I'd be using Dianne after a really good friend of mine who would be tickled pink if I named my DD after her (same goes for Kelly). The fact that it's my MIL's middle name is a bonus.

But I have to wait til tomorrow to find out if I have a DD on the way and even get to use the names I want! I hate waiting.... <_<

    Vivian

Ps. I love Chloe and Zoe! It's sooo cute! I think some rhyming names do work. I knew someone with the last named Bush who said they'd name twins Rose and Berry. still not sure I feel about that.

Twins are special and you should honour that however you see fit(whether it be rhyming, similar sounding, same initials ,family names or just totally different altogether,etc...).

My NEW fav name is Brioni (but would spell it differently for twins to match a little).

    g/g-Briony and Bethany
    b/g-Brody and Briony

    Other spellings-Brionee,Brioneigh...

Can't wait to hear what you're having!!!

I have LOVED the name Kelly for a boy ever since there was a character on Guiding Light with that name when I was a teen!!! Maybe use it for a middle name with a really masculine first name!!!! Congrats on b/b!!!!!

I think middle names are a great place to give twins a cute connection. For example rhyming or similiar (or even the same) middle name, or a theme, like Hope and Joy, Lily and Rose for girls, or Faith and Justice, Thorn and Rose for b/g!
In middle names you can be creative but still give them a name that with wear well.

  22. I think it depend on the name.... my DD1 rhymes with the younger twins name and both the twins start with the same letter for first and middle name. It wasnt completely planned that way, but we loved the names....

We meant for the girls names to match as it it tradition (after 17th sets I think we have it down pat on having twins). They are Jazzlyn and Jesslyn but go by Jazzy and Jessy. Their middle names are super rhymey but they are my mom and little sister's middle names (Ranee and Dunae)

I do not like rhyming names at all! Or names that sound anything alike! I wanted to make sure each baby would know who I was talking to and I think that would be more difficult with similar sounding names.

I saw some stand up comedy from Ray Romano - you know he has id boys - and he was asking people in the audience if they had twins, and when someone said they did, he had them tell him 1 name and then tried to guess the other twins name based on the first name. He guessed a similar name and was actually right. Then he went on to say that his twin boys names are Gregory and Schmegory. LOL

is out of the question then huh?! :rotflmbo: Can you imagine going through life trying to feel sexy with a name like Uehla Bethel!

Kelly would be a wonderful jumping off point for a boy's name. But before you decide on Telly or Sully,
maybe consider Keran or Collin first.
Good luck, you've got many agonizing hours trying to decide ahead of you, but what a daunting blessed task eh!

Can't wait to hear what you're considering, keep us up to date.

I think that you should do what ever you like and not let other people influence your decision. I chose names that start with the same letter. As a matter of fact, the first three letters are the same. I know that some people say that you should name them completely different names so they can start establishing their own identities from early on. However, because I am having b/g twins, I do not think that they will have a issue with having their own identity.

Best of luck with what ever you choose!

I´ve read that its best not to give twins rhyming names so they are treated like individuals rather than a "team". Still, the choice is entirely yours. GL & congrats!

One of our neighbors has identical girls that are 3 years older than mine. They are named Janelle and Joelle. When he found out I was expecting twins, he said "Call me if you ever need anything and don't give them matching names!"

I have gone back and forth with my twin girls' names. First it was Sadie and Sophie. Then it was Kenna and Kinley. Now It is Ava and Kenna or Emma. We have a little girl named Ella though so I am not too keen on Emma. I love Kenna and Kinley but DH doesn't. I say whatever you decide to do is up to you. If it is two boys, you could do Kelly and Kobe?!?! Good luck!

I personally am an advocat of not giving twins matching names.
Twins have enough trouble defining there own identity, i think giving them matching names would only make it harder.

If your looking for a matchy twin thing, i would suggest going with names with similar or the same meaning, or getting two names from a differant culture, like two russian names or something.

My Ob nurse is a twin and her name is Cindy and her twin sisters name is Sydney. They love that they sound the same. I think most will learn to like what they're given. They are super close and even do the same job at the same office, just for different docs, lol!!! It's so cute. I happen to be one that believes you should name them what you like and not worry about what others think. If I had twin girls their names would've been Sierra and Sienna. How many people get the opportunity to have twins and experience all the fun and special things that come along with it? Have fun with it!! :)

Here are some similar sounding names like that:

    Josie and Sadie
    Kendyll and Kalista
    Laci and Lexi
Lexie and Lanie(Alexis and Delaney) so their full names are totally diff but still have similar sounding nicknames,etc...

I just thought of a cute matchy twin set, but its so subtle it pleases those (like me) who dont like matchy twin names.
For one both the names are Russian and second they mean Hope and Faith.

Nadia and Vera would be such a sweet subtle matchy twin set.

Nadia (Hope) also, Nadya or Nadezhda (nadi-ez-dah)
    Vera (Faith)
