We have only had 3 lessons and Lily is already SWIMMING underwater, but Jack freaks out sooo much and gets so mad that the instructor is only working on floating with him and he really just screams his head off yelling mama and trying to turn around and find me. It is KILLING me. Does it get better? While one is going, the other just sits on my lap, poolside, holding onto me for dear life and awaiting their own turn with dread. Did you feel like this too? I am afraid that I am causing them too much terror by doing this even though I know that living in FLA it is probably a really good thing for them to do. How did you get through it?
Oh, and don't get me wrong, even though Lily is holding her breath and swimming under water she is still screaming whenever she is above water. BTW, they just turned 1 year old.

    TIA
    Amy

Talk with your instructor. They will put you at ease. It will take time for them not to scream. Hang in there.

I just signed mine up (man is it $$$$$$ ) and am thinking mine will have the same reaction the entire first week, I actaully expect it and mine are not afraid of water at all. But I think this is the reason you go every day for 5-7 weeks and think of how cool it will be for them to be able to float and much safer it is to know they can do that!

Yep, it sounds like they are being hurt...they will be okay and it will get better. I know that my C never really stopped crying. She learned the float and swim, but would still scream. BUT, she loves to swim when not in lessons. I want to hear from you after 2 weeks...they shoudl be doing so much better. You will be glad that you did ISR. Talk to the instructor about your worries she should help you feel better also.

When I was an instructor, we did not allow the parents to be in sight durning the lessons. I think it helped a lot. Its kind of like getting a shot though, there's going to be some screaming, but it's worth it.
