To induce or not to induce......

So, I am 36 weeks, and I am absolutely miserable . I can hardly walk anymore. There is a horrible pressure when I get up, and a pain in my back that makes every step seem impossible. My doctors want to induce at 38 weeks, I have made an appointment but am hopeful I will go before then.

The thing is, I am really struggling with induction. I just don't know if its the right choice. I feel inducing would be based mostly on my own comfort. What do other moms on here think of inducing? How many have done it and how was it? How many chose to stick it out? I am struggling so with this decision. My DD is supportive no matter what I decide, but he leans toward inducing because he sees how miserable I am, and he thinks I need to be ready for the babies. He thinks if I wait and wait, I will just be exhausted and worn out when they get here. So, I don't know.....

My DS was induced and it all worked out fine. Most twins are born between 35-38 weeks. I know that there has been a lot of moms that have induced on here at 38 weeks. I say go for it. If the babies are weighing in at a good healthy weight I think I would, but it has to be your decision. Good luck and congratulations for making it this far!

If this helps - my doc refuses to let me go over 38 weeks because the rate of infant mortality in twins starts to grow after that point. Remember, twins are already pretty well ready to come out at that point, anyway. They develop much faster than singleton births. I say induce!!

I am being induced on Monday and I agree with pp the rate of death really goes up after 38 weeks. I am nervous too, but I know that my doctor would not induce if it were not safe for the babies.

I would induce, the babies will be ready then, and so will you. You don't want to go too long and have problems with the babies. I would go with the dr. advice.

I would agree with the other ladies and if you haven't gone on your own in the next two weeks...then definately induce.

My OB said 38w was the cut off point. I was induced. I went to my 38w1d appt and nothing was going on with my cervix so OB said I would be coming in the next day (38w2d) to induce. My two were born the following day at 38w3d. My inducement (labor and delivery) went great!

You never know though in the next two weeks what might happen...you might go into labour on your own!

I'm not a supporter of inductions with singletons but I think twins are different. Twins are well matured by 38 weeks and the risk of stillbirth for twins increases earlier than it does for singletons. If you are dilated at all, I'd go with the induction.

INDUCE!! :) I've had two prior inductions and am looking forward to the third. I'm not as far along as you, but I do feel as if the babies are somewhere around my knees when I'm walking.

Can anyone post any websites or references that talk about increased infant mortality w/ delivering twins after 38 weeks? I am interested in this, and would like to read up on it!

Same here! I'm 37 weeks and 1 day and my cervix is way in the back, soft, 50% effaced, but totally closed. I'm scheduled for an induction on Monday: well actually prostaglandin gel on Monday evening to "ripen" the cervix and then induction with pitocin on Tuesday. I'll be exactly 38 weeks. My doctor doesn't want me to go over that date because, as others have posted, the risk of something going wrong with the twins increases past 38 weeks. So if you are induced it won't be a question of comfort for you but of safety for your babies. A part of me hopes that my body will be ready before that and that I won't have to be induced. On the other hand, I had to be induced for my DD at 41 weeks and everything went very well, so...

    Hang in there!
