TMI - this diarrhea is killing me

I've had diarrhea for a week! It isn't as bad as it was, but it is still there - for sure.

When I saw the doc on tuesday she asked if I felt ill and I told her no - not really. For the most part, I haven't... but it just hasn't gone away.

I am wondering if this my body's way of trying to flush out extra fluid? My legs have been swelling really, really bad - so much so that my feet hurt to walk on at night. Good thing is that my BP is great and cervix is still really tight and high - so no worried of going into labor anytime soon OR high BP.

I also thought maybe it was a run with IBS? I've never been diagnosed with IBS but I certainly think I've suffered through boughts of it in the past.

I don't know what to do. I eat a lot of protein - not so many carbs because of the GD. I haven't really changed any eating habits or medications - so what is up?

Anyone have any two cents for me? I see the doc again on Monday... saw her today but didn't talk about it. I don't know if I should be worried?

I remember with my last pregnancy that off and on for the last 3 weeks or so I would have bouts of diarrhea. I also did not feel sick and it did not affect my weight gain or food intake. Just be sure to stay hydrated. I have heard that contractions cause GI upset and vice versa so maybe you are contracting without realizing it. I went into preterm at 33 weeks, got steriod injections, terbutaline, and was on Nifedepine for the next 3 weeks. I didn't progress to more than 1.5 cms during that time. After I was 36 weeks I stopped the meds and started the contractions/diahrrea etc. but never went into progressive labor. By the time I was 39 weeks I had been into labor and delivery 3 times but only dilated .5-1cm over 2 -3 hours and was always sent home. My OB tried stripping my membranes etc. but although I showed all of the classic "signs of labor" I was induced 1 week before my due date because my OB felt so sorry for me!! Sometimes your body starts getting ready pretty early so I wouldn't worry about it-try to rest and take care of yourself in the meantime.
    Good Luck, Melanie

I had it horribly at your stage in pregnancy with the twins! I would try adding some extra bananas into your diet, and see if that helps. Lots of fluids. :hug99:

I had this on and off toward the end of my pregnancy too. Like you I had no other real problems. It is your bodies way of getting rid of all of the extra stuff before you have the babies. I would bring it up on Monday.

I would try adding some fiber to your diet.. also the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). Its really normal towards the end of any pregnancy to suffer with this. I had it with my last pregnancy and it was horrible. Drink lots and lots of water though.. don't let yourself get dehydrated.

With my first pregnancy, oh the diarrhea was AWFUL!!!! my dr told me that some women's bodies do that to clean things out to get ready for the big day! I thought I had eaten something bad?! it was rough - I just knew that I would have a blow out all over the delivery table but somehow I did not!! I would also add bananas, maybe toast -that kind of thing to my diet! GOOD LUCK!!!
