I'm trying to find a less expensive way to feed my boys oatmeal. So, I bought a deal of "Old Fashioned Quaker Oats". Will this work? I've grinded it up in a blender and am planning on making it just like the Gerber stuff. Any thoughts?

I don't see why not, I think there might be some receipes on the wholesomebabyfood.com web site. I know when my older son tured one I bought a big box of instant quaker outmeal at cosco and he would eat one packet for breakfast.

I used real oatmeal with my niece, but we had to cook it. She had it pre-ground and then we just cooked it right before we used it on the stove for about 3 minutes. I don't know if thats how you're supposed to do it, but thats what we did!

We tried doing that at around 10 months (didn't start oatmeal until 6). My boys refused to eat reg. oatmeal, but I never thought to grind it. Let us know how it works.

nak You have to cook it. The boxed stuff is somehow already cooked.

Definitely let us know how it works out for you! Do you know if it has the same levels of iron as the baby cereal? That would be my only concern.

I think that I read one time that the iron levels are the same. I do believe, as PP suggested, that you do have to cook it.
