tipping the spoon

When my girls started out using spoons, at first they would tip them upside down as they brought it to their mouths. Lauren caught on right away and started scooping and eating the right way. Emma, however, still tips as she brings it to her mouth. So there are many things she should be eating with a spoon that she still uses her hands for because she can't hold the spoon upright. I have made every effort to try and teach her but she freaks out if I touch the spoon while she is eating. Any advice?

No advice here.. Clayton has taken to turning the spoon as it approaches his mouth. :(

Haley does the same thing and we end up with lots of food down the front of shirts. Megan is 100% better but still occasionally has an issue.

I think that is pretty normal. The thing that helped us most was using the spoon with the holes in it, then when it was really liquidy it would already be out before it got tipped, and if it was gooey enough to stick a little (yogurt, applesauce), it mostly stayed on anyway.

And to help her understand, maybe practice by feeding her dolly with a spoon (pretend food), and then scooping up water with it in the bathtub where she can get wet and it doesn't matter.

She'll get it, you just may have to clean up for awhile.
