I put the kitchen chairs on the table after dinner today because I am so sick of the girls climbing on the chairs and then the table!
We have friends that have a climber so they tied all the chairs together under the table with her hubby's old ties  . Just one big string of ties wrapped around all the chairs. Then she just unties one end when it's time to sit down and eat. It looked hilarious, but it worked! Laura
Thanks for the great tip! Both of my girls are climbers, esp my Natalie! I had actually considered a similar idea to the ties, except with bungee cords! LOL
"NO! We don't swing on the chandelier!" was a scolding heard more than once in this house. As soon as they could reach it, that was the ultimate adventure. I'm glad to know it was installed properly so it could support two toddlers and it's funny in hindsight but I was NOT amused at the time. They didn't actually need the chairs to get up on the table so pulling the chairs out didn't do it for us. They'd push whatever they could move over to get a boost. I went a different route and installed a climbing dome in the living room for their 2nd birthday. When I found them climbing something around the house, I'd say, "That is not for climbing. Go climb on your monkey bars." It didn't stop all of it but it helped. Oh, and they're almost 5 so I recently put the towel bar and tissue holder back up in the bathroom. It's staying on the wall now. :good:
As I type, I have two folding chairs folded and laying under my dining room table. Also, their high chairs get folded up after each meal and are put away. Can you tell I have a climber? Luckily, just one of them climb at this point. So far...
climbing is first, THEN they start to move the chairs and bar stools and stools to other parts of the house to climb onto counters that used to be protected!!! I try to just keep all chairs pushed in, and then the chairs that they started to move around to go get onto other surfaces I tied one leg of the chair to a leg of the table. you just need to make sure its pretty short so that it can't be pulled out too far and tripped over! let the fun begin!! oh, and for the barstools and other stools, I just removed them from the area...
