Has anyone had a 19-20 lb DD at 2 years? Was there a medical cause for her small size?

(My DD hasn't really grown since her 18 month WBV, and I'm trying not to worry.)

I have a tiny DD -- she will be 4 in a couple of weeks and is under 30 lbs. No medical issues, just small. Even though she has never been on the growth curve, HER curve is fine so the Ped has never been concerned. Growth does slow around 2. Is your DD very active? Does she eat well?

    Best of luck!

My dd was only about 20 lbs at 2 years. She's perfectly fine and healthy. She eats like a horse and runs around like crazy. :D

My DD was around 21lbs at 2 yrs. She will be 3 next month and is just about 26 lbs now. My Pedi has never been concerned. As long as she maintains a steady weight gain, she should be fine. My DD was 4.1 at birth, and her father is very skinny. All of my other children were bigger than her, but she's always been little and the pedi has never said anything, not even in comparison to her twin brother who has always been at LEAST 3 lbs heavier. My DD is growing UP, not out. .so shes skinny. Ive just recently noticed that shes getting a little thicker in her thighs, and she has a little belly. . but overall still skinny.

I was thinking about this just yesterday b/c I think my 5 yr old is somewhere between 45-50 lbs, my 4 yr old around 40lb, etc. So, it seems like once they get to be 2-3yrs old, they should weigh around 10 lbs for every year old. . .???? Thats just my observance of my kids.

My daughter was 22 lbs at 2 years. She eats a lot and is very active.

As long as she hasn't dropped drastically off of her growith curve, I'm sure she's fine!!

Hi, another small one, my daughter will be 4 next month and she might weigh 28 lbs. Her twin brother weighs about 40 lbs. My daughter has always hung out in the 5th-10th percentile. She eats more carbs than most and just doesn't gain weight. As long as she is active and happy and has followed her growth curve, I wouldn't worry about it.

One of my DDs was 23 lbs around age 2 and now at almost 4 she is just over 30lbs.

She is petite adn always has been (I am smaller)- Dr is not concerned, although if your DD is NOT growing at all I would ask for them to watch her carefully. She may have food allergies, intolernace, or something. All kids should GROW- just at different rates.

I did note a long plateau around age 18 mon- 24 when they learned to walk---they were too busy to be bothered to eat as much!

My smaller daughter is now 24 pounds at 2, which isn't particularly tiny, but she was 21 at a year and 23 at 18 months, so only one pound in six months (and only three pounds in a year). She dropped from the 32nd percentile to the 12th, so our pediatrician was mildly worried. But Piper eats pretty well, is very active, and is growing in height, so there's not really much we can do. If she continues not to gain weight, the pedi will recommend some tests in three months, but for now he just told us to encourage her to eat fattier foods (she really likes beans and blueberries but says no to cheese).

my dd is 3.5 years old and about 24 pounds (with her clothes on and soaking wet!) She can still wear 2T things but I have her in 3T.
No medical problems, she's just very petite. The doctor has never been concerned about her. My other kids aren't giants but she is the smallest by far.

Her twin brother is about 30lbs and 2 inches taller than she is.

Doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about unless she has stopped eating.

My DD is also tiny. At their 3 year checkup a month ago she weighed in at 25 pounds and I was SO happy! At 2 1/2 she was at 24 pounds. She didn't hit 20 until she was about 2. I chuckle about it because if we had waited until she was 20 pounds to turn her carseat facing forward, she would have been a full year behind her brother.

Is your DD drinking whole milk? Ours told us to keep DD on it and not switch to one less fatty. We also add in Carnation Instant Breakfast each morning to ensure a little extra boost for her.

It's a constant battle on my part to keep a little meat on her bones.

Emilie is small too. At 2 year she was 22 lbs and at 3 years she was 26 lbs. No medical issues, other than being a preemie. But she is my absolute best eater out of all 3 of my kids and she is very active and healthy. The Dr. has never been concerned.

Thanks for sharing info with me about your tiny DDs. Addie eats ok, probably like a typical toddler, some days more than others. I have to take her in to the pediatrician on Monday for something else so I will ask him about her weight and see if he is concerned. At her 18 month WBV, I was told to supplement her milk with instant breakfast powder or pediasure so I've already been doing that.

That's my Ellie. At her 3 year check up in April she was a whopping 25 pounds. I was surprised she weighed that much.

She's just small, also wearing 2T like a pp said, but they are big on her. She could probably do in 18 month stuff again but I wanted it out! She's stayed on her own growth curve, is a great eater, and has no other problems. As a 36 weeker it can't even be chalked up to being a preemie. Doctors take one look at me, I'm 4'8", and shrug. I don't bring my 6'2" DH to appointments!!!

My DD is 15 months and just weighed in at 18.5 pounds.
the only time shes ever been "up" on the growth chart are the few months I added formula into my breastmilk.
Her brother on ther other hand was a full 5 pounds more than her and she can out eat him any day! Shes perfectly healthy, just petite like me :)

Auburn and Nicole both got weighed today and came in at 22. They'll turn 3 in August. I wouldn't worry about weight unless they're showing signs of anemia or other problems. Some kiddos are just petite :).

I would talk to the dr and take a look at her growth curve. If she is steady on her own track, then don't stress...she is just tiny. If it has taken a huge dive down or something then I would ask if you should be concerned about anything. Mine are both tiny (I think my sig still shows their weights) but started out tiny too. Mitchell has struggled with weight gain, we have done all the tests and they came back normal. He is finally on the charts. We have lived off of pediasure for a while. He drinks about 3/day. We try to get him to eat whatever he will, but more times than not...he picks the healthy food (like last night we had pizza and salad...he just wanted the salad...go figure!). I am sure the dr will help ease your concerns!

Sophie has just turned 3 and still only weighs 27lbs and wears size 1.5-2 year clothes! Jack on other hand weighs 36lbs and weighs 3-4 size clothes. Like pp said as she is following her growth curve than i would try not to worry about it too much she might be petite x

Meghan was 27 lbs at her 4 year appt, back down into the 1st percentile (she was in the 3rd last year). She had on 18 month shorts the other day and they fit her. I would talk to her doctor, has she fallen off the growth charts? That's when you should be a bit more concerned. My niece did drop off the growth charts and it turned out that she had celiac (she can't tolerate gluten in her system), so she wasn't growing because her diet had to be changed. She is a healthy and normal sized 8 year old now.

My twins are almost 4 and one of them hasn't yet reached 30 lbs (her ID twins is around 35 lbs). K was only 2 lbs 15 oz at birth (34 weeks) and has a chronic lung condition (BPD). I often feel guilty about it (and her weight gain is often my "cause of the day" that I totally stress about. But, she eats mostly healthy foods. If given a choice between a hamburger and a carrot stick, she most often picks the carrot stick. She is active and mostly healthy and likes to eat healthy food. I try to tell myself that good eating habits will be better for her in the future than her size as a preschooler. But some days its tough.

I don't know if all these stories helped you fell better, JessiePlus2, but they made me feel better.

This would be the concern. Otherwise, she should follow her own curve! She's probably just petite!!
