Tiny bit of spotting at 34 weeks

    I'll be 34 weeks tomorrow.....just noticed yesterday that I'm having a tiny bit of spotting/dark yellow discharge on my pantiliner -- though there's nothing on the toilet paper when I wipe. It's not much, only a tiny bit, but it looks very different from the clear stuff I've seen through most of the pregnancy....and, it continued all day yesterday, and is still there today.

    Otherwise, I don't feel any different, just more tired and achy, and I think I'm imagining crampiness because I'm nervous about this -- but, no contractions at all.

    Is this a big deal, or can I wait and ask the OB on Tuesday? They're not even checking my cervix anymore, because I'm so far along....

    One other question -- I never had the steroid shots, because I haven't any signs of pre-term labor -- so if the babies were to come now, would that be a problem? Would they try to stop labor at this point?

    I know I'm just being paranoid, but everything has gone so well so far, that now I'm starting to panic. Thanks for listening!

    I would call your doc Becca, the yellow discharge, could mean you have some type of infection. I never lost my mucous plug, so I am not sure if it could maybe be that?

    As far as delivery at 34 weeks, reaching 34 weeks is a great milestone, as the risks start dropping quite a bit after this point. Some babies born at 34 weeks are completely healthy, others require a short NICU stay. My docs would not stop labor after 34 weeks.

    I don't think that you are being paranoid at all, better safe than sorry in my opinion. Call your doc, and keep those babies cookin!!! :hug99:

    I was thinking mucus plug when I was reading your post.

    I think it is generally believed that steroids mature the lungs to the equivalent of 34 weeks gestation so I would think that steroids would not be needed if you were to progress into labor now. My docs would not stop me if I went into labor anytime after I turned 34 weeks.

    [SIZE=10pt]Becca ~ I know how you're feeling.

    My OB said that they don't do the steroid shots afer 34 weeks. I'm also have some yellow discharge. Again..she said that it was completely normal. My OB is still checking my cervix every week when I go in. On Friday it was still closed and long.

    You might want to call on the spotting ~ but could be the start of your plug.

    Thanks guys -- I did call, and since I'm not having any other symptoms, they said to just watch it, and call back immediately if it increased, or if I felt any cramping, etc. And, I'm supposed to call tomorrow morning and let them know what's going on.

    It's really just a tiny amount -- I'm guessing the start of my plug, too. I'm not doing anything except lying on the couch today -- too petrified to move, LOL.

    I lost my plug over the course of about 2 weeks, I would definitely take it easy but don't freak yourself out!

    I had TONS of discharge starting around 32 weeks...can't remember the color exactly, but there was a lot and my OB said it was normal. But, I would call just in case, never hurts to ask. My OB would not do steriod shots beyond 34 weeks. I had them at 30 weeks with PTL with my twins. I delivered at 34w1d and mine spent 17 days in the NICU as growers/feeders...they were kind of on the small side for 34 weekers though. Oh, my OB also wouldn't stop labor after 34 weeks either. Goodluck to you!
