We gave the girls 30 minutes, and they usually took the whole 30 minutes. Even as they got older my girls were never fast drinkers.

My girls take about a half hour each to finish a bottle.

All three of my kids would almost NEVER finish a bottle in one sitting. Sometimes it would be two hours! They would drink most of it, and leave a little bit, and then finish it. Drove me bonkers! And for me, I just dealt with it. As they got older, and I could get them the faster flow nipple, it got a bit better... But it still drove me crazy!

When our boys were little, it took 30-40 minutes....now they usually finish in about 10 (yes, they scarf it down!!)....we tried slowing them down with a slower nipple and they just get mad.

My boys were horrible with bottles and until they hit about 6 months it would take 30-45 minutes per child to finish 4-5oz. I was patient with them because they needed to eat but it was so frustrating!

We were told my several Dr's and nurses not to let them have the bottle for longer than 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, they start burning more calories trying than they gain eating and it becomes counter productive.

How old are your babies? Have you tried playing with nipple sizes and flows? Different bottles? Burping more frequently? Turning the bottle in the babies mouth to "remind" him/her to eat? Are you feeding on a schedule or on demand? Just a few factors that might play into it taking so long. Good Luck!!

When my guys were little it took FOREVER, it was horrible. William would take an hr to finish a bottle when he was a newborn, and he ate every 2 hrs. Nathaniel took 45min to an hr to nurse, and ate every 3 hrs. As they got older it got better. Before Nathaniel weaned, he would nurse in 5-10 mins. William as he got older could knock back a bottle in 10 mins. Now at almost 11 months, it takes about 10 mins each for 8 oz.

Same here! It has gotten much easier now that we don't have to spend an hour feeding.

I was thinking these same questions. When my boys were newborns, they took a while. Luke was always a faster eater than Sam. But, once they got a little older and we upped the nipple size, both ate quickly - maybe 10 minutes.

When they were tiny about 30 minutes, but not necessarily in one go (might feed some, stop for 5 mins, feed more).
Luke had reflux and needed a break in the middle of his bottle. I used to feed him half his bottle, burp him and sit him in the bouncy chair or propped up on the sofa, feed Naomi all of her bottle and then feed Luke the second half of his. That took at least an hour, I used to allow 1 1/4 hours per feed in our routine when planning the day.

My girls have never taken longer than 15 minutes. Now they scarf down 6.5 ozs in about 8 minutes.

Mine can take hours... if they are hungry and alert/paying attention maybe 30-40 min.
I wonder if its too early to up the nipple size yet?
