Time for Toddler Bed?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried to switch their twins to toddler beds and if so, how did it go?

Our girls share a room and I guess I worry that once we switch they aren't going to go to sleep and just be up and about the whole time, or one bugging the other one to stay awake. So, far we've been extremely lucky in that they've alwasy slept through the night, except for once or twice.

Any ideas on when would be a good time to try it out?

If they arent climbing out, and are sleeping the night fine, I wouldnt move them. My oldest was almost 3 before we switched him to a big boy bed. I didnt put him into a toddler bed at all. I plan on doing the same with the twins. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I agree with PP, if you aren't having any issues with them sleeping in their cribs - I'd leave them be for now. My oldest DS slept in his crib until he was 3.5 and my (almost) 3 year old twins are still in their cribs and they love them. I'm in no hurry to deal with any possible "big kid" bed issues that will arise. :)

    I agree with this!
My DD started climbing out of her crib at 19 months and we switched her. My DS was just switched to a toddler bed a week ago and he is a couple of weeks shy of three. They do go through a transition period when they switch, both my son and daughter seemed to give up naps for a couple of weeks to play around in their room and once the novelty wore off, then they were back to their schedule.

My guys are still in cribs, and I hope they'll stay in them for a while yet! They haven't started climbing out (though Nate fell out the other day ), so I think I'm safe for a while. I feel like my boys just don't have the maturity yet to be "free range toddlers" at night. ;)

I think that if your girls aren't climbing out, and you have no other compelling reasons for moving them to toddler beds (a new baby, etc.) then I'd wait until they're a bit older. :)

Mine are still in cribs and I hope it stays that way for awhile. I don't think I can deal with no napping right now. I am also afraid they would destroy their room. They are very "energetic"! Our cribs do convert to toddler beds though for when we are ready.

Ok, I will chime in because my daugther is out of her crib in her big girl day bed. We one night just put the railing up (there is about a 2 foot gab between the end of the railing and her crib) and put her to bed. She has not attempted to get out of it since then (going on 2 weeks now). The transition was seemless. Her twin brother is still in his crib, because he has not mastered getting down the stairs on his own yet. Until then, he will be in his crib. I use this as a guideline becauase should they want to get out of their cribs, they will know that they have to go feet first on their bellies to get out of their beds. But like I said, Olivia jumps into bed on her own with a step stool and doesn't get out of her crib until we get her from bed/naptime. My oldest son was the same way. It was easy for us.

I also wouldn't rush the toddler bed transition unless there's a good reason ;) My ds has tried to climb out of his crib, but he hasn't managed yet. First time he climbs out or falls out, we'll convert the crib to a toddler bed. I'm hoping it happens closer to 3 yrs old!

I moved my older 2 kids around this age, 2 yrs old, but it was pretty easy since there was just one child. I anticipate many more issues having twins ;)

We just moved ours to toddler beds a week ago today. They are almost 20 months old. One twin had climbed out, and the other was trying to. We put their mattresses on the floor for a few days until we could get the beds. The first night was rough, but since then nights have been back to sleeping though the night and waking up at normal time. Naptime is another story. They will usually fall asleep, but only after running around for 1-2 hours. We have everything out of their room except their beds and stuffed animals.
