We have been fighting this for almost 3 weeks. First I tried the gentian violet. When that didn't seem to knock it out, I took the girls to their ped. She gave me the nystatin liquid to squish around in their mouth. That didn't work either, and the thrush only got much worse. It is now in the back of their throats and they sound hoarse when they cry. I just started the gentian violet again. But I am having little faith it is going to get rid of this thrush.

I have been boiling their bottles, nipples and pacifiers. I do this AFTER I have soaked them in bleach. UGH! What else can I do? Any hints or ideas?

Our babies came home with this from NICU and it took FOREVER to get rid of, esp Ainsley.
We used Nystatin liquid for the mouth and cream for her bottom. Our pedi told me that even if the rash isn't showing up on her bottom, that you have to treat both ends or you may as well not bother.

WHatever you end up using, stick to it and be diligent; it can take a long time. Poor baby; doesn't it look uncomfortable?

Our girls had this too when they were about 3 months. My doctor prescribed a yeast infection cream that came in drop form. I can't for the life of me remember the name. (If you said it, I'd probably remember it, though).

ANyway, they got it again about 3 weeks after that episode and I told the doctor that I really wasn't crazy about giving it to them again. He told me that we could just "ride it out". We did and it went away a few days later. I didn't put anymore effort into cleaning their stuff than I did before they got the thrush and it still went away.

They (knock wood) haven't gotten it since then. Good luck. Poor babies....

I am so sorry! We fought thrush for several weeks. In the end, we used Diflucan oral suspension...we saw improvement immediately. Our boys had it down into their throats. I hope it clears up soon!!!

We're getting over thrugh right now---we went through it twice. The nystatin worked well---I just got distracted and didn't give it for the full three days after it got better. Make sure you just stick with it. I'm also applying athlete's foot cream to my boobs... (though we just call it athlete's boob now!)

    Good luck!
