My 2 year old has been throwing up all day; not even keeping down liquids. When do you call the doctor for a 2 year old? Thanks! Of course this happens when DH is gone for the week!
Ugh, I hope it doesn't last too long. seems like there is a 24-hour bug going around. I hope that no one else catches it.
i would call the dr now, this happened to me & we ended up in the er about 6 months back, with gavin he was dehydrated and needed an iv it was so sad to see my lil man in a tiny hospital gownd...it happened so fast within 3hrs of him not keeping anything down..we went to the dr and he sent us directly to the er... i hope he is feeling better soon...... :hug99:
I would give it 24 hours. That is usually how long it lasts. Any longer and call ped. All 3 of my kids were puking for about a day then pooing for several days later Not fun but nothing serious. Just try not to give anything for an hour or two after no puking. I know its hard. Or just let them sip very slowly. Usually they keep puking because they keep drinking/eating. Once they can keep something anything down, try the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, Apples, toast). HTH and good luck!
I'd give it 24 hours, unless he starts showing signs of dehydration. Our pedi said to give a couple sips every 10-15 minutes to keep them hydrated.
Thanks for the suggestions! It has been awful! Any time I bring a bucket near since he looks like he is going to throw-up he says no, no,no. I feel so bad for him. He now has the runs and a fever. At least he hasn't thrown-up in awhile, right?
I would say if he's not throwing up anymore but now has the runs and a fever this is a virus running it's course. I would suggest a popsicle if you can't get him to drink anything. I have better luck with those than those yucky-tasting re-hydrating drinks. Mine also like to eat crushed ice with a spoon. If the fever lasts for more than 2 days I would call. Of course, if he's showing signs of dehydration call sooner. Good Luck!
For me it is based on urine and tears. If they are only going to the bathroom once in 10 hours, if they cry and there are little to no tears, if their mouth is dry. Those are when I worry.
Nat, we just dealt with this with Ali! It didn't last long, so I hope yours doesn't either. Don't give anything to "drink" for about 2 hrs. after the vomitting, and then give some ice to suck on and get the liquids in slowly!!! Get popsicles or pedialyte popsicles to get a little slower bit of liquid in. I think you don't give food again for a while.....I have to see if I can find my paperwork on it.... Good luck!! I hope you don't have a long bout of it! :hug99:
It has made its way world wide! I have had it, then gave it to Zack... he has been throwing up and having the runs all day! ICKY!
