My twins are figuring out that things drop. And then cry bloody murder for it. I go in and get it once without saying a word. Than, it goes on and on.

How many times do you go back in to get whatever they drop. Mine only sleep with their lovies and my DD has a paci.

    Thanks!

I would leave a few hundred paci's in their crib if they are dropping them out on purpose. ;) Mine never got into that, but we did take the paci's away cold turkey around 17/18 months.

I personally have 2 binkies in each bed, basically for if they loose it in the middle of the night they'll have a better chance of finding one... As far as purposely dropping things out - mine have done that as well. They sleep with a blanket, a pillow, winnie the pooh and the binkies. I have a tv screen style/2 camera monitor so I see if they throw it out and I let them cry for about 5-10 min without going in at all. That typically helps them to get tired. Then I go in and explain quietly that we don't throw then I lay them down, tuck them in and that's it. Typically they'll go right to bed after the first time but every once in a while they'll still do it and I don't go back in at all. They cry till they are asleep. They had me trained for a while and it was pretty much a game... after we started this it has pretty much worked. Good luck!!

Crib tents work perfect for this!

Ugh, Miles is a thrower... and also the most soother dependent kid in the world. I used to have to go in about 50 times before he'd settle into sleep because he'd jump in his crib, throw his sucky (usually at Austin) then scream for me to come pick it up.. repeat.

I started giving him more soothers in bed, and now at 16 months I have had enought so I just let him CIO. If he wants his sucky, he can have it by not throwing. I plan to take them away in about a month for good, so I figured in the mean time he can learn how to sleep without it some nights.

Once mine turned 1 I let them have all the stuffed animals and blankies they want along with their loveys. They have so many things that if they throw one thing they don't cry. They actually make a game about throwing from one crib into the other, so it is retrievable once the other twin throws back.

I would do it twice and then "tough luck". Or crib tents. My kids were fast learners. I was a good teacher. LOL ;)

My DD's went through this. Now they are both aware that I will go in ONCE, and once only. One daughter never throws a thing out of her crib, the other starts every night with a mass pile of toys and paci's on the floor....but only once!! She learnt pretty fast that when Momma says she's not coming back, Momma really does mean it! Now it is this funny little ritual she has to get an extra kiss - and then they both fall fast asleep.

The early waking...now that is another story... :headbang:

Aiden went through a phase of doing this with his lovies. He has 2 in his crib, and he would throw them out. At first I would go in a couple of times and give them back. Then, DH suggested letting him cry a while (15 min or so) and let him get tired out and really want it, then go in and give them back. This worked, as it started to die off after a while.

There are some tricky paci clips out there that might help with that part of the problem. My son was a paci junkie & although he didn't throw it, he was always waking up unable to find it so we got a paci clip he couldn't get it out of & that seemed to keep it in place all night. It might work ??? Just a thought! Good Luck ;)

crib tents... though to be fully effective you have to get the Crib Tent II (from Tot in Mind) to get the one with the full surround on the inside... otherwise the original one only covers the top of the crib and they can still throw or drop things through the slats! (There are pros & con to having the full surround... pro - keep stuff inside, and keep kids from getting to stuff when they are out of the crib just in the room... con... you have to take the whole contraption off if it gets wet or pooped on... UGH!!)

on the other hand... I used to use the paci clip... someone said it might be a choking hazard... not sure if I ever thought it was but we did end up not doing that at the end. the other thing I did was to tie the paci to a crib slat. it was with a small - very small like 4 to 5 inch ribbon it was funny to see the kids laying up against the side of the crib sucking on that paci!! but at least they couldn't get rid of it by dropping or throwing!

good luck, that was such a hard one!! I tended to get it for them once and then let them figure it out. but in the middle of the night if they scream, I would always go in... for fear it was something else. like a leg stuck in the slats etc!
