Had a day from H... yesterday. I woke up sick as normal and went to work. Around lunch time, I noticed I was starting to have period cramps. However, didn't have any bleeding, so I figured it had something to do with my lack of "going." So I called the doctor and asked if I could take milk of mag...and the nurse said no. So I went back into work and asked my friend, if she remembered having period cramps with her pregnancies, and she was no help.
Well, it was close to 5, and we were getting ready to go home, and I had to use the bathroom. Luckily, my friend was in there because once I went, it looked like I started my period!!! I was just in shock and then I freaked. With that much blood, I figured I lost the baby. So my friend grabbed my purse and took me to the ER.
THEY MADE US WAIT FOR 3 HOURS!!!! I was a wreck.
When I finally got back to the room, I was still cramping and noticed I still had blood on my pad. They did a cath and said there was just some "floaties" in there. So I sort of got hopeful...until I went to the bathroom. This time more blood and a lot of clots came out. So I called for the nurse and she went and got the doctor.
They did a pelvic and said they need to do an ultrasound.
By that time, Dennis got there and went to the u/s room with me. I didn't want to look, but I couldn't help it.
She found the baby...AND IT STILL HAD A HEART RATE!!!!! We both cried. lol They baby is fine.
The bleeding is coming from my placenta implanting on a blood vessel and causing a pocket of blood. They called it threatened miscarriage and they are worried that the blood might cause the whole thing to "slip out." Then they said I have a 50/50 chance...and I honestly do not know what that means. I don't want to know. I am trying to stay positive and just praying a lot.
They said if my placenta won't hold, there is really nothing they can do. I am honestly scared to go to the bathroom now.
I called my OB this morning, and I am seeing her today. Maybe she will be able to tell me more than an emergency room doctor.
So please keep me in your thoughts and prayers! Has this happened to anyone else???

Oh and on a side note...I have been sicker than a dog, but now I welcome it!!!

    Hey girly,

Keep your head up. I had some heavy period type bleeding at 6 weeks. I was scared to death. I was away on a business trip in Vegas and had bleeding that night and couldnt wait to go home and see my OB-gyn the next day. Then the morning I woke up still upset and worried I had lost the baby I got a phone call that my SIL that was watching our dogs let the dogs outside and went back in and my 10 lb Yorkie got hit by a car.

I cried and cried and cried on the entire plane ride home and just knew I lost my dog and baby. Well my dog was in Puppy ICU (in an oxygen tank) and they said he wouldnt walk again. Well guess what... $2,000 dollars later, my dog is home with us and walking fine! Of course he has a limp but I just love him. Then I went to get the U/S and said I had a "wall of blood" and thats what caused the bleeding and I also had a 50/50 chance of miscarriage, BUT i also found out I was having TWINS!! Isn't God great.

Now I am almost 31 weeks and I just look back at that awful time when I was six weeks along and thank Him everyday at where I am. There is definitely hope, and a lot more than you think :)

I hope everything turns out ok for you and I will be thinking about you and praying for you. Keep us updated.

I'm sorry you are so scared. I hope this is just temporary bleeding and your baby is just giving you the first of many (mini) heart attacks. :babyflips:

Being this early on there is nothing they can do.

When I was pregnant I was at the mall with my little sister and there was the biggest gush of blood ever, so much it was running down my leg. I went to the ob where he sent me to the hospital. They did an ultrasound and that is where I found out I was pregnant with twins (I had had an ultrasound a week and 1/2 earlier and only saw one baby so talk about shock). They let me know that I was having a threatenend miscarriage and we would just have to wait and see what my body did. Luckily I stopped bleedig heavily but still spotted enough to need a pad. We went to eat at Red Lobster I went to the restroom and a HUGE clot came out, I totally thought I miscarried right there at Red Lobster. We ended up going to the er that night and they too made us wait about 2 hours, basically it is because if you are miscarrying there is nothing they can do for you (is what my ob told me). They still saw heartbeats but it was pretty much wait and see.

I ended up having a successful pregnancy. Try to stay positive. I know it is not easy. Just remember if the blood darkens up that means it is old blood and the bleeding is stopping. Bright red blood is continuing to bleed.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you everyone!!!! It has been comforting reading other experiences. I went to my OB yesterday and they did another u/s, and the baby looks really good. He/she has a good heart rate of 159. She called it a subchorionic bleed and showed me on the u/s the spot where it was coming from. They said there is nothing they can do and sometimes it just heals up on it's own and everything is good. They put me at a higher risk and told me to take it easy for 7-10 days I guess until it heals. They just said that would have to watch it. But as of today, I am only spotting older darker blood and don't have much cramping. I am VERY happy about that.

I was just going to say sounds like a subchorionic bleed. Some drs recommend taking it as easy as you can (one of my friends put herself on bedrest for a week, she felt like it was all she could do). I hope it heals on its own and you have a very uneventful rest of the pregnancy!

I know this will sound strange, but when I had a subchorionic bleed drinking a lot of water would really help the bleeding. Wish you and your babe the best.

I had a subchorionic bleed with my ds#3, and with the twins. It is so scary!!

I remember with my ds#3 I just knew I had lost him - no way with that much blood was he still ok. We waited in the ER for HOURS TERRIFIED! that was the longest night! - he is 11yrs old today and healthy as a horse! With the twins, there was not as much blood - but OMG it was scary! they told me that there wasn't anything I could do to improve it that it would either improve or get worse but not to lift anything over 2 pounds and not to stand for more than 2 hours at a time. I put myself on bedrest and the bleeding stopped in both of my pregnancies. They also told me that it is pretty common - and that in most cases it resolves with no other problems.

Not to be too personal but I wouldn't be intimate for a while to let everything heal itself. I will be praying for you and the baby!!

I was also diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage with my last pregnancy around 10 or 11 weeks. I had had several days of dark brown discharge and the doctor said for the time being everything looked good. Then a week or two later on vacation, had bright red bleeding. Not much, but enough to scare me to death. Went to the ER and they told me it was a threatened miscarriage and prescribed pelvic rest for three weeks and general rest until I could get back to see my regular doctor. Now she is here and six months old. :) You have to stay positive and know that so many women experience this, only to go on to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Keep us posted! to you.
