Hello! I have ID boys and they seem like they are looking more and more alike everyday. So far, we have been able to tell a difference. Has anyone else experienced this? I know that it is poss. that they won't look alike even though they are identical, but that's part of the fun with having twins!!

    Thank you!

My girls are identical but Kaylyn has always been about 1lb or so bigger than Kylee. When they first came home Kylee had an umbilical hernia so if all else failed we could strip her down and determine who was who. I'm not gonna lie though, there have been several times that I have mixed them up!

Do they have any defining birth marks or anything?

I can easily tell my girls apart if they are side by side - Amelia's face is wider and Lily's face is more round and smaller. Also now they make different facial expressions - I can't really explain it, but I can tell them apart and so can DH.

The older they get the MORE alike they look for us.

The head shapes have always been and will always be the differentiating factor here. They also have different expressions sometimes too.

I do not mix mine up and I really don't think that really happens :)

FWIW: the only way people can tell my twins apart is if they are both in the same place and they can compare the head shapes. If it's one by himself, everyone just has to guess.. even grandparents!

My girls are difficult to tell apart to most, though one is 1 lb. larger as well. I have to admit, there are some pictures where they are alone and I have difficulty distinguishing them (especially as newborns). But like pp, their expressions are totally different, and when together, you can tell them apart from their personalities.

we found out at 4 months that our girls are ID -- before that I swore they were frat -- didn't look a thing alike to me (and 95% of the people could tell them apart)... as they've gotten older.. they have definitely grown more alike in regards to appearances --
I'm thinking that they'll just keep looking more and more aike as time goes on :)

My ID's have quite a few differences. Their head shape is the most noticeable. Laud's eye's seem a bit lazy, but we had them tested and it's just an appearance thing. Laud has two dimples, Creed one. Creed has a birthmark on his leg. And all of Creed's features are just a tiny bit smaller, even his privates. Interesting huh? That being said my husband will mess them up.

The only differences in my ladies are the shape of their heads [one's round and the others more oval] and their cowlicks [Alyssa's got two side by side in the back of her head and Rose's got one off to the side, lol]. Other than that - they are perfectly identical down to their fingers and toes!!

Yeah - and neither of them have birth marks [I thought everyone had these?!]

We mix ours up too. The only sure way to tell now is to wet their hair. Cassidy's stands up like a rooster when wet.

My girls are identical and are now 2 1/2 years old. At first it was hard but now Paige is a good 2 inches taller than her sister and about 4 lbs heavier. Funny how ID twins can be that far apart - Their little faces are the same.

The other day I was Yelling Paige's name for her to stop touching something - it was actually Sami. Paige was next to me going "I'm Paige!" Now they tell people who they are . People still have trouble telling them apart. As their Mom - I feel they look totally different.

You will mix them up but will alwasy get it right - eventually!

Me too, especially in the early days. If it wasn't for Amelia's red toenail those first few months there is a good chance we would have swapped their names and would never have known it.

Thanks everyone. So far, I have been able to tell them apart. Yes, one of them does have a birth mark on his chest (thank God!) They also have very different facial expressions.

I was just asking because they seemed to look different at first, but as the weeks have passed, they are looking more and more alike. I wasn't sure if this was normal as far as ID twins are concerned.

Thank you to everyone for your replies!

So funny. I have the same situation Kyrstyn had. Taylor has always been 1lb smaller than Abigail and Taylor has an umbilical hernia. Other than that they look so much alike!

mine look very different (to me) when they're awake. however, when they're asleep i sometimes have a very hard time telling who is who. yesterday i went to pick them up from daycare and i had to stare at sleeping owen's face for a moment to be sure i had identified him correctly.

once they're awake it's far less of a problem. owen's head is more oval, jacob's head is more round. jacob's features also seem a little more wide-set to me. they have other differentiating factors as well, such as jacob's teeny tiny strawberry hermangioma on his chest (about the size of the tip of a sharpened pencil) and owen's umbilical hernia. jacob's hair is also thicker on top where owen looks like he's balding. but the easiest way to tell them apart is to pick them up. jacob is consistently 14 ounces heavier than owen. they're the same length so that means jacob is chunkier and owen is slimmer.

ETA: and yes, mine looked less alike when they were first born and are looking more and more alike as they grow.

My boys also look more alike as they get older. Cooper's face and head is rounder and Clay's face and head is more oval (as seems to be the case with a lot of identicals). Cooper also has a dimple on one cheek, Clay doesn't. It is a lot harder to tell if they are not next to each other.

They say that my boys are frat but I have to tell you that the only diff is that one has a square shape head and the other has an oval shape face. Also one has a birth mark above the right eye and the other has a birth mark above the left eye. No one in my family can tell the diff unless they are side by side or if they look at the birth mark. when they were born my ob swore they were id. He looked at the pl and thought that he couldnt see where they had eve been in seperate sacks so they said that they sent my pl to someone to have it looked at and they said that could see the line of where they were seperate. I have know idea. All I know is that i have some pretty cute boys!!!

I'm pretty sure that if I posted newborn photos and asked if they were frat or ID, the response would be overwhelmingly fraternal. But our boys are ID; we have the DNA test to prove it. They just didn't start to look alike until the jaundice had faded (only one had it) and they got their first crop of "real" hair (4 months). And no, I've never mixed them up for more than half a second but my husband has and quite a few other people really struggle with telling them apart.

ETA: Sara, my boys had separate placentas. Not even fused. That doesn't mean they're fraternal.

My girls are identical but really didn't look very much alike at birth due to their size difference. I wasn't until they were around 3 and the 3 lb difference became a smaller percentage of their total weight that they really started to look alike. There are times now when I have to look closely to figure out who I'm calling.

mine are very similar and they weigh exactly the same, always have done ... when they are apart we can see differences in head/chin shape etc which you would imagine would become more obvious when they are together but no! next to each other is when they look their most alike! we keep a toenail painted just in case ... lol. i love it, it certainly is part of the fun and i can't wait to see how it pans out as they grow!
