Exactly what the topic asks. I am looking for a new carseat for DS1 so that way I can upgrade the twins into the big carseats we already have.
    Thanks

We have the Radian 65. They go up to 65lbs in a 5-pt harness.

We have eveflo triumph advance, its 50 height and 50 weight. with the 5 point harness. I believe they are 129.99 at BRU but you can always catch them on sale.

Great question, as we are a pound and an inch away from outgrowing our car seats. When can they use the car seat with the regular car seatbelt? I am assuming a five point harness is safer?

Decathalons by Britax here. I invested the chunk of change initally so that they'd last us until the girls were 65 lbs. We bought mostly everything second hand so I didn't mind spending the money on "new" carseats if they were to last us this long. They've been in them since they got out of the infant carrier. Good luck with your quest.

have you checked out the new Nautilus? I am thinking of getting 2 for my van and putting the others in my car. I like that you can use the 5 point harness up to 65lbs, it goes to highback booster and then booster up to 100lbs.

I hope the link works if not just type Nautilus in the search at the top of the page

Marathons - they will go to 60 pounds I think. My 5.5 yo isn't even 38 pounds yet so I expect they will get us to the booster seat.

I would never ever put my child in a booster before age 4 and 40lbs. It's recommended to keep children harnassed as long as possible. There are plenty of seats available these days to accomodate that. Many posters mentioned the most common ones.

E.g. Radian 65 or 80 (high top slots and up to 65 or 80 lbs - my oldest 95% is in one and I expect her to be in there until age 6 or so). The twins are in Britax Marathons (17.5" top slots and up to 65lbs; Britax makes similar - newer - models as well). The Evenflo Triumph has been mentioned (17" top slots and up to 50lbs). Britax makes the Regent (top slots 21" and up to 80lbs, lasts most children up to 7-9 yo).

We also went with the Radians when the girls outgrew their Britax Roundabouts. I want them in a 5-pt harness as long as possible.

Ditto keeping them in a 5pt harness as long as possible. check out the crash tests on youtube.com if you put a child in a booster too early. SCARY. Anyways, my dd could still fit into her bros Marathon at 7.5!!! But she is petite. The boys are in Marathons and Fisher Price Safe Voyage that go up to 55-60 lbs. But its th$e HEIGHT they outgrow first. I think the limit is 49 inches on both. Then I will move to seat belt only booster.

I have heard great things about the new Graco Nautilus. It looks like the Turbo booster but it harnesses to 65 lbs! It is only $149 at wally world. But seeing as you will have other kids to hand down this seat too, you might invest in a Britax Regent which goes even higher than the Marathon. Then you will only need to buy one REG when the time comes.

see www.car-seat.org for lots of info on this subject B)

Oh what is his height/weight? my boys are already much bigger than dd was at 3. So that is why I got the MA vs. RA. If you go by their %, you can pretty much guess what his ht/wt will be in 2-3 years as they gain 3-5 lbs and inches a year approx after age 2. HTH

i just ordered 2 Britax Marathons...hoping to be able to use them until the kids are 5 or 6.

I did a lot of research on a carseat site - www.car-seat.org (I think - the site won't come up).

A lot of good information, all folks there are pro-extended rear facing (so Jake and Becca will be rear facing for at least another year) and 5 point harnesses for as long as possible. I think Jake and Becca may need one for college.

we have the evenflo triumph deluxe and the limit is 40/40. My problem is, my DD is 43in but only 34 lbs and DS is 40 in and only 32 lbs. I think we're going to go w/ the Radian 80. Other than the weight limit, does anyone know the difference between the Radian 65 and 80? Also, are they sold in any stores?

    Thanks

Yes Extended RF is very important too! I kept my boys RF in dh's car until 2.5 ish since he had no latch or top tether (80s mercedes diesel running on BIO DIESEL :icon_biggrin: ). So I RF their MA and attached top tether to seat belt stalk which is approved by Britax. They actually could STILL be RF but the MA don't fit in DH's new beetle which does have top tether and locking seat belts and better safety rating for rear end collisions.

Yes the MA should last until 5-6 at the earliest. :winking0009:

I luck out in the fact my van has built in harnesses that we can use. They are rated to 50lbs. Not much help, but that is what we use.

No difference, except that the 80 has more padding. Height wise it's the same. That's why I bought the 65. I looked at the CDC charts and saw that my oldest will hit 65lbs at age 6 1/2 (that's 95%), so by that time, she'll have outgrown the seat height wise anyway (that's what usually comes first). So I didn't bother getting the 80. If it had higher slots, I would have, but since it's the same, I didn't bother.

    Right Start sells them.

My 10 yr old doesn't weigh 65 pounds! Wow. I never move my kids to a booster with a seat belt until they are old enough to not mess with the belt. That was different with my two oldest. We have the boosters with 5pt harnesses. The twins are still in convertable car seats but Aaron is in a booster with the harness. The kind we have switches to using a seat belt when the kids are ready.

the radian 80 is for heavy kids. My 8 year old is barely 53 lbs but over the height limit at 49 inches (all torso short legs) for the harnessed seats.

Thanks for the info. What is the height limit on the Radians? My almost 4 year old DD is already 43 inches.

  25. 1girltwinboyz

    1girltwinboyz Well-Known Member

the highest harness slots are 18". height is a relative. its the torso height which is more important. like my dd was barely 48 inches but all torso and short legs so she could not fit into a Marathon with height limit of 49. Whereas her friend who is 50 inches and all LEGS (lucky her! HA), has an inch or so before her head hits the top of seat. (neither use them both use seat belt only boosters this is just FYI).

    HTH

Ok found it its 49 inches height limit as well. But remember our kiddos only grow 3-4 inches a year past 2.

With the Radian you can go over the top slots and as long as the ears are not above the top of the seat, you're fine. Or when they're under 53" ... according to my manual. So it mainly depends on torso. My oldest has a long torso, outgrew a Marathon recently.

Yup.. Just like Sofiesmom said. Top of ears over the back or 53inches. We have the Radian 65 and love them.

I got mine at elitecarseat.com and they had a 10% twindiscount. They also have a $5 additional charge for returning the seat if you don't like. The Radians don't work in all cars, so I took that insurance for not having to pay to send them back. You can check car-seat.org to see if they have in there database if the seat works with your car.

My boys are not at the top slot yet, but will be soon. I installed the Britax Boulevard into my SIL car for her twins and tested them on my boys. They are at the top of the sliding thing already and I couldn't find a way to make it go any higher. So they would not last my boys for much longer, while I think they will go to college in the Radian.

Also the only difference I see with the 65 and 80 (besides the weight) is the cushioning, mostly for the baby insert. Which I was not concerned about.
