Despite the fact that the sonographer told us they were the same weight, Baby A was born about a pound and a half lighter than her twin. She was 4 lbs 13 oz. She is still quite skinny (but the pedi. told me she did great as of the 1 month check-up although she only grew 1/2 inch.) I'm sure she's heavier now and taller, but not nearly as tall and heavy/chunky as her sister.

So I'm wondering...those of you whose twins had significantly differnt birth weights...did the smaller twin ever catch up? It worries me a little but maybe I'm just being paranoid.

We go for the 2 month check up next so I'll know for sure how much she grew, but just want to know how others are doing.

    Thanks!!!

My girls at 14 months are still 3 inches and 3 lbs different! Even tough they are id after the egg splits their can be mutations in each eggs dna, resulting in height differances and even build differeances. Most people don't think mine are id. As they are getting bigger they do look more alike though.

My two were only 5oz different at birth - and are now 2lbs different in size - the smaller one was held back on eating in the NICU for a while, but really I just think it's that they are different babies and do different things....

Mine were a pound apart at birth, and now there is only a 3 oz difference in them! They are the exact same length. Twin A was larger throughout the whole pregnancy and they told me that Twin B was not going to live b/c she was sooo much smaller. She ended up catching up near the end of the pregnancy and blew the drs. away. Thank you Lord!
And now, like I said...they are almost the same in all areas! [IMG]

Mine were 1 lb apart and 2 inches apart at birth and now at 8 months, they are 3 lbs apart and 4 inches apart. Brooke looks like her real age but Madison is more like her adjusted. I always heard they will catch up but I know that even my 27 weeker is still on the small side...no one would ever guess hes 3 but hes fine

Our IDs were exactly 1 1/2 lbs. discordant at birth. They are probably about 2 lbs. different now at 8 1/2 months.

We had acute TTTS. Syd was 4.10 and the donor (pale). Sam was 5.3 and the recipient (red). Sydney is actually bigger than her sister now! They are about the same weight. But Syd's head is bigger and she's slightly taller. She consistently drinks MORE formula than her sis (and poops more too!). Syd was quite weak from the blood loss, then had pyloric stenosis and lost more weight. She's really made a comeback!

Mira was 4lb6oz, Maya 3lb 2oz born at 34 weeks. Now at 7 months, Mira is 14lb10oz, & Maya is 12lb 5oz. It's amazing the difference 2 pounds makes at this size. Maya looks like a peanut next to Mira, especially now that they are sitting up.

The weight difference between our two grew to about 3 lbs by the end of the first year and that's where it has stayed. When babies are little, even a small weight difference is very noticeable but it just matters that both babies are growing. Now that the 3 lb difference between our girls is a smaller percentage of their total weight, you can't really tell that Ainsley is heavier than Sierra anymore.

Mine were exactly the same weight and length at birth (5lb5ounces and 18 1/2 inches long) and we think they are ID, but we don't know for sure. Natalie was in the NICU for 6 weeks and Brooke came home after 2 days in the hospital. Natalie dropped down to the 4lb range while she was in the nicu. By the time Natalie came home Brooke was a lb bigger. Now almost 2 years later and Natalie weighs 3lbs more than Brooke and is about 1/2 in taller! For us, the fact that Natalie didn't start walking until 3 months later than Brooke is a big factor in her weight being higher than Brooke's.

My boys were 11 oz. difference at birth. At two months, they were 5oz. apart and at 6 mos. they were less than 2 oz. apart! Until recently, Jack (the smaller one) would take one more bottle a day than Paul. Now they pretty much eat the same.

Our girls were 39% discordant at birth. Lillian was 2#, 14 oz. and Breanna was 4#, 10 oz. There was a full 2 pound difference for the first 5 months. Then it crept up to a 3-pound difference. At Christmastime, they each some weight due to the flu, but Breanna lost more. Now they're back to 2 lbs. apart. At 8 months, Lillian weighed 14#, 10 oz. and Breanna was 16#, 8 oz. and doing great!

Crazy as it seems, people are starting to have a difficult time telling who is whom. Until they pick them up.

P.S. When we were leaving the NICU, our doctor said that chances of them evening out to exactly the same weight are about 50/50 for identicals. And that whether they became the same or not, it wouldn't be noticable once they hit about 2 years of age anyway. That's around the time the preemies seem to catch up with the rest of the kids or even out if they will. Take that for what it's worth.

Thank you all for posting! It is interesting hearing about the sizes of other twins.
