Those who have Britax Marathon Carseats....

I'm about to purchase new carseats as my 2 little sweetpeas are almost too big for their infant carriers...I was just wondering - do those of you that have the marathon find that it was difficult to fit in your car when you still had it rear facing? I have a smaller sport ute (Lexus RX330) and I'm worried about squeezing the seats in there. I'm also considering the roundabout - but I worry that my twins may eventually be too tall for it - they are small weight wise - but very long!

I have above average children. My oldest grew out of her Marathon at age 3 (yes, no kidding). She was 39lbs, over 40 inches at 3 years combined with a long torso. My twins are also above average so I bought another Marathon. I have a Volvo XC90 and it fits OK. Not perfect but OK. I know (from experience with my oldest) ff is not a problem, but obviously not yet. If your children are above average size I would never get a Roundabout ... waste of money.

One of my twins switched to the Britax Marathon a month earlier than the other. We installed the car seat rear facing in our Honda Civic on the passengers side. It was awful, the passenger seat was the pushed the whole way forward and it was quite uncomfortable for me. My Husband would always drive since he is taller. Luckily we were shopping for a mini van because we would never be able to drive with the 2nd car seat installed.

I'm not familiar with your car so, I don't know how it compares to a Honda Civic Sedan.

My guys are 4.5 and are still using the Marathons. Good luck.

We bought the Marathons when the girls outgrew their carriers a few months ago (due to height). we have a Toyota Sienna and they fit fine rear-facing, but no one else can get to the seat in between them, or the third row seating. Once they are old enough and turn the seats to front facing my DH said that there will be no problem getting past them.

I know that even in our mini van, my dh hated driving because the driver seat had to be moved way up. I do love the seat though. We just turned them forward facing and now we can finally put the driver seat back more. I wonder if you can go to BRU and test it out on your car?

We were able to put two Britax Marathons rear facing in our Dodge Intrepid, which is a roomy sedan, without any problems. I would go to BRU and try them out before you buy them. And they are quite large seats! In our sedan no one could sit in between the two seats, and we couldn't put them next to each other either. We just recently bought a Saturn Outlook, which seats 8, and even with the extra width we still can't put them next to each other!

It might be a tight fit, but I wouldn't get the Roundabout. My singleton -- who is very tall and skinny -- outgrew it in height at age 2.5. And, I want to keep her harnessed until at least age 4, so I had to buy yet another seat....

    Nicole,

I know your twins are almost 1, but legally they should not be forward facing (1 year AND 20 pounds). Just wanted to make you sure you know. Extended rear facing is recommended for a number of reasons.

Check out www.carseat.org it will tell you what seats fit in what cars I think (it used to). That might help! We have a big car, so no issues for us! If $$ isn't as big of an issue, then get the one they will last the longest in if possible (that's strictly my opinion)!

    Diane,

Would it be an idea to have a car seat sticky with things like legal ages, important websites, extended rear facing, etc.? There are so many good websites and sources out there, and it would be nice to have an overview. It's such an important issue.

I have quite a lot of info, so I would be willing to put this together.

    Let me know.

I have also been researching the Marathons on line. WE are going to puchsase 2 at BRU.. You can get them the cheapest at BRU using the coupons that are at the store right now..you can use them starting July 23rd, the coupons is for 15% off any single item, then ask for your twins discount on top of that.. after all the discounts, the Marathons will cost about $207.00 each, instead of $269.00 OR you can buy them on line from $229 at travelingtikes.com, check out the website, they even have free shipping!

    I hope this helps..

BRU has a twins discount? All the times I've been there with my 2 babies - and none of the sales people mentioned it to me! Regarding the BRU coupon - do you get it from in the store after July 23rd? Or is it an internet coupon?

YES, BRU offers a 10% Twins Discount! Just ask, and they should give it to you.. that's exactly what we did when we bought our baby furniture. The coupons are available in the BRU store now.. go in and ask Customer Service or any cashier for 2 booklets of coupons.. the 15% coupons can not be used until July 23rd, that's when I plan on picking up 2 Marathons, that's the best deal so far..
