What do you give them for milk? My girls can't have milk because it causes diarrhea. I tried to give them goats milk today and they don't want anything to do with it. I don't want to give them soy milk because all the controversy over it. I was thinking about a lactose free milk but not sure which one has the most nutritional value. I was thinking about trying Dairy-Ease or Lactaid. Have any of you tried anyone of these? How much sugar are in them? If you don't use these what do you use? Thank you everyone.

Ethan drinks either Dean's Easy or Lactaid. He likes the Lactaid better though- he says it's sweeter. You can check the ingredients, but I think that the only thing added is the enzyme to break down the lactose.

We've been lactose free for three years now and have come up with some good substitutes so that he doesn't feel left out. Let me know if you need any ideas.

Trish, I gave Justin, and Hannah, the Lactaid milk after the soy formula, and they did fine with it.

We are dealing with a dairy allergy so the lactose free milk was not a possibility for us, so our nutritionist told us to stay on the soy formula until age 2 for the higher fat content. Now we are on Vanilla flavored 8th Continent soy milk and loving it!

If the lactaid is a high enough fat, comparable to Whole Milk, go for it. And good luck!

Thank you everybody. I think I'll give the Lactaid a shot, I'm also thinking about rice milk. Theres a Dr here that specializes in all natural and is also a nutritionist and her recommendation is to use the rice milk. As far as the vitamins (from milk) I'm not to worried about it because they are on Juice Plus and that gives them everything they need for the day. As far as the fat goes I'm not sure where I personally stand on that issue. If they're growing just fine why is there the need to give extra fat. This is something I talked to the Dr about and her response was "that if there on the Juice Plus I really didn't have to give milk of any kind." But I'm not sure where I stand on that either. So I'm back and forth a lot on these issues. I want the girls to be healthy and I want to give them the best shot at a healthy life. I'm personally into more of the all natural types of things. I guess I just need to do some more research and make a decision. I know theres going to be a lot of you who are not going to like some of the things t just wrote. I don't really want to start a debate, these are just some of the things that I'm thinking about so please don't get mad. Thank you everybody who took the time to read this and answer, I really appreciate it.

If it helps at all, Ethan drinks rice milk too. It's more expensive, so it's a special treat for him as it would be too expensive to have all the time.

We use Vance's Dairy Free. It is a potato based product. We did Rice milk for a while (until we realized it had gluten) and Gabe liked that. Lots of my clients use the reduced lactose milk product and have no problems (I don't know if you get WIC but you can get lactose reduced milk on WIC). Gabe won't do the Goats milk either - he loves Goat cheese but hates goat milk!

    Hope all is well!
