My sons' little weewees almost look uncircumcised. You literally have to pull skin back to see the actual head. Is this normal? And if it is, are you or are you not supposed to pull it back and clean under there? What do you clean it with and how often? Sometimes, there's a white film on the area underneath the extra skin. I know this sounds stupid and I've waited way too long to post, but it's one of those things they told us in the beginning that DH and I were too out of it to understand clearly. Help!

That sounds a little strange to me. Do you have a 4 month check-up coming up? I'd put that on the list of questions. I'm sure there is a lot of variation in wee-wees, but that sounds like they didn't quite do it right. It should look smooth I think. Tell us what the ped. says.

    That doesn't sound quite right....

For what it's worth, my son is not circumcised, and one of the things I was told is that I should NOT pull the skin back right now -- it's only safe to do when it naturally separates and retracts on its own, which can take a few years, even.

I'd definitely ask the doc at their next appointment!

The problem is, I've asked the pediatrician every appointment and he says it's fine. But I remember changing my baby brother's diaper and it just didn't look like that! Oh God, I think I'm going to have a panic attack! I NEED A NEW PEDIATRICIAN!!!

Ok first of all...it is completely NORMAL! that's the good news! They don't mention this enough to parents when telling us how to care for the circumcision. My guys are 16 and 17 years old.....when My 17 year old was a few months old....it was just as you described..I took him in.....the tip of his little *enis had cheesey stuff around it....the dr put some KY on his hands and pushed it back....my son SCREAMED bloody murder...it was so hard to watch.....come to find out....when we are bathing them.....the circumcision does NEED TO BE PUSHED BACK! that avoids that situation. so just genltly push back the skin while he is in the tub...and make sure there isn't any gunk on it....this is information I pass onto everyone that I know that has a BOY.....It happened to my nephew 3 years ago....The Dr.'s say it is perfectly normal...just as you said!

    Take care,

    Missy

My Son Thomas looks just like that as well. My Doctor swears he has the best circumcision she has ever seen and it most definately looks weird to me. She said as he grows it will form into what we think of as a traditional circumsized penis. She also said to clean there once a week and only more if somehow poopie gets in there.

    Hope this helps!

My boys were like that for a while too. At their 8 week check up our pedi told us to pull it back once a day. We would usually do it it the bath and clean it very good also she said eventually the more you do that the better it will look. They are starting to look like real men now at age 5 months.

My son's is like that too, it is normal. I TOTALLY agree with Missy... PLEASE pull it back because it WILL attach itself and the dr will push it back and it hurts them! It happened to 3 of my friends that have boys so I was very careful to do that but I wasnt pulling it back far enough and it did attach itself a little but ok now.

My doctor told me to pull my son's skin back and just clean that white stuff off with warm water and a wash cloth ...

My first boy had this happen too. And unfortunately it rehealed onto the tip. He is now crooked  Poor kid. They don't want to recircumcise it. But they are hoping that it "fixes" itself in puberty. Most likely I'll be having to take my teenage son in to get it fixed.

    All this to say:

Pull back the skin at least once a day, and Clean it very well!!!!

pull it back when they are in the tub...and pull it all the way back...so it doesn't get attached at the tip!

    You are doing good Mommy!

Try doing it in the bathtub while the skin is wet. It should be a lot easier that way. You shouldn't have to pull it back far. Just a little bit.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for posting this topic. My son was circumcised last Friday and DH and I were sure that the doc did it wrong! I kept saying to DH, "Well, it doesn't look like yours! He messed it up!!" I'm so happy to know that it's supposed to look like that. He is still pretty swollen, but I will start pulling the skin back once it's healed. Thanks again!

When they are in the bath or when changing u just pull it back as if poppin it out of its little house so to speak and wipe out the white stuff which is called Shmegma (sp) and can become quite nasty if left. With my son I either do it during a changing or when we are in the bath I make sure his little man is in the water and pull it back slightly and wash around it. His little peepee always looks like it is uncircumcised but it is normal and they will grow into it eventually but in the meantime u just give it a little cleaning by gently pulling it out and wiping it down.

Just pull it back so you can see the ridge, wipe it, and if you want, you can always put some Vaseline on it if it seems irritated. I tried to remember to do it at every diaper change with Jake, as Josh had to have his pulled back(ouchie!)by the ped. Now that he is older, I don't have to do it as much.

Yikes -- looks like I inadvertently gave you the wrong advice, sorry! I guess the care instructions are very different for circumcised vs. uncircumcised parts -- who knew?

I wish I had known to ask about this when my (now grown) son was a baby. His circumcision never looked right to me either, and the doc never told me to pull the skin back and clean around the head. He healed with the skin on the tip and it looks uncircumcised. A different peditrician told me when DS was in elementary school that he could have it surgically fixed (re-circumcision) if it bothered him but DS never mentioned it so we didn't have it done. I don't know if it's ever been an issued for him or not (and I'm sure not going to ask now, lol!).

I'm glad you got some good advice about cleaning, etc. Good luck!
