I had my bimonthly ultrasound and ob check today, and all is good except no more gym My cervix shortened a bit since last time, not enough to cause any concern, but he didn't want me to be overdoing it and causing it to shorten even more than it does naturally. Other than that, all good, have to do my GD test next time :-/

 

Had a regular OB appointment today. She said the babies sound good. I will go back next Monday. Oh, and she said to take benedryl to help me sleep. Hopefully, things will be good again next week.

 

I have my ultrasound and my OB appointment on Thursday. Neither doctor thinks I will still be pregnant for the appointments so here's to proving them wrong!

Well, both babies are growing but it slowed some. It was quite obvious as the ultrasound tech and then the perinatologist had trouble measuring them that they are quite squished in there. Both still transverse, one was even curled up and it took awhile to find an angle to measure her head. They couldn't find it! LOL - they are up to 4 lbs 14 oz and 5 lbs 12 oz. The doctor said he was fully confident that as long as I made it another week they would both be over 5.

The OB visit was also good. I lost my mucous plug, still just 1-2 cm dilated and I gained 2 more pounds. I was hoping to keep it under 35 for the pregnancy and I'm at 39, I can handle this! She said she thought I would be back Friday for that appointment - this was a midwife, not the OB who didn't think she'd see me again. Oh, and she was totally bummed that they were transverse... apparently they had a vaginal delivery of twins last week and I'm a great candidate for one if they weren't transverse.

So, on to week 36!

 

Hi ladies,

I spent the night before last in the hospital under observation. Around mid-day on Thursday I thought that I lost my mucous plug. Since I had to go into the hospital anyway for my weekly progesterone shot and my every-other-week infusion of iron, I called in to my OB (who's office is in the private hospital) to have her check me re: the mucous plug. Unfortunately, I missed her by minutes, as she was sent home sick. (I have never been to the hospital and not found her -- she lives there. And, she is my husband's first cousin, so she can always make time for me.)

Well, I saw the OB on call, who was very nonchalant about the mucous plug, until he put his hand on my belly before the ultrasound and decided that I was contracting. I have never been able to tell when I'm contracting because I am so hyperextended and by uterus always feels hard as rock. So, I was sent up to L&D to be monitored, NST and cervical exam. Of course, when I called my husband and told him to meet me in L&D, he was freaked out (I'm 30 weeks today). After a few hours of monitoring, and checking my cervix (which was still closed but had shorted from 4.5 cm to 1.5 cm in the last 2 weeks), they decided they were just braxton hicks contractions. But, they did give me the cortico-steroid shots for fetal lung development. One thing I never knew was that these shots can have some strange impacts on blood sugar, so a diabetes doctor met with me the next morning, and I've been asked to monitor my blood sugar levels for the next 2 days. They have been on the high side, but hopefully this is just the effect of the medicine.

One good thing that came out of this is that it gave me an opportunity to watch the fetal heart beats -- so entertaining. The boys are identical, and for the most part, their heartbeats were very similar. Until I can feel one kicking the other, and the recipient of the kick will have a very high beat for a minute, or at least until he returns the kick and gets back at his brother. Poor babies, so squished! They are measuring a little over 3 lbs each and very active. Hopefully we won't have another trip to L&D before week 36.

Another good thing that came out of this is that I met some other OB's and got their opinions on c/sections vs natural births for mono-chorionic twins. I'm very torn on the subject -- my perinatologist feels Csections are safer for twins sharing a placenta, while my OB thinks that a vaginal birth should be attempted if the first baby is vertex (which he is and has been for a while.)
