The boys are going to a Montessori 'Toddler Class'. It began this week. They will go three days a week for an hour and 45 minutes. They really ease them into it. Yesterday and today we went with them and tomorrow they go on their own for only 45 minutes. They liked being there but we were there with them! They loved the fish and Nicholas loved going up on the loft because they had baby dolls up there in high chairs and strollers and he loves babies! They also had a train table, instruments, a reading center, a place to give baby dolls a bath!, and an easel to draw on. I was really happy that they moved around the room independently. I thought N would totally follow S. We will wee what he does when I am not there.

Tomorrow they call it "Musical Thursday" because of all the crying! There is a carpool line and the teachers come and get them from the car. I dont really know what to expect from them tomorrow.
Here are some pictures from their first day!

Your boys are so adorable. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I'm sure they'll get the hang of it and love it. It sounds like a really nice program!

    Nicole,

I'm a Montessori teacher and have dealt first hand, with having to remove children from their parents cars. Rest assured, even IF there IS strife as they leave your care, it RARELY lasts more than a couple minutes. They'll likely adapt to that part of the 'school routine' as quickly as any other part.

I'm sure they'll do wonderfully, but I look forward to hearing the particulars.

    Colette

P.S. -- as for the climbing out of the bed thing... so glad to hear the tents were a good solution for you! Yea!

Here is the email I sent to my family today...

    -------------------------

Here are some pictures I took as the boys got out of the car with their teacher and when she brought them back after the 45 minutes (today was a short day). They got out kind of nervous but did not cry or look over their shoulder at the car so that was good. I was prepping them all morning so maybe they got it.

When I drove away, I very unexpectedly got emotional!!! As I got myself together finally, I looked at one of the papers the teacher had handed me as she got the boys! It was the poem below and then I got all emotional again!

When I picked the boys us, Nicholas was crying (as you can see in the pictures). She said that he laid on the floor and said he did not want to go home. I am a little confused since he does not talk in full sentences! Here is my thought...yesterday she said she was going to take them to the park today (the playground in the back of the school). I think they might not have gone to the park (Little Christopher told his mom they did not go but that is out of the mouth of a 2 1/2 year old). When they got in the car, they both were crying and saying 'park'. Or maybe they did go but it was for a few minutes by time they got to their room and had to get back in the car. Anyways, by time I pulled out of the parking lot, they were happy.

    Heres the poem:
    THE FIRST DAY
I gave you a little wink and smile
As you entered my room today
For I know how hard it is to leave
And know your child must stay.
You've been with him for many years now
And have been a loving guide.
But now, alas, the time has come
To leave him at my side.
Just know that as you drive away
And tears down your cheeks may flow
I'll love him as I would my own
And help him learn and grow.
For as a parent, I too know
How quickly the years do pass.
And that one day, it was my turn
To take my child to class.
So please put your mind at ease
And cry those tears no more.
For I will love him and take him in
When you leave him at my door.

Here are the pics I shared with my family

They are adorable, I love the hair!

Is that a Montessori thing, that the teachers come and get the kids from the car? Or is it more because there isn't anywhere to park?

Good question...I have no idea. There actually is no place to park. They share a building with the local public school district admin office so the very few spo ts there are go to them.
