Thank you to all the people who repeat "white noise machine" on this board. I thought I wouldn't spend the money, but today I had enough. Both are acting so colicky but I am pretty sure it is from a yeast rash on their bottoms that looks really bad (they are on a Rx for this...got it after I took antibiotics that seeped into my milk). Anyway, I broke down and got a "heavy surf" cd from Target (Bed Bath and Beyond were out of the $20 noise machines). IT IS A MIRACLE. It calms them down instantly. If you turn off the noise machine, it is like you just poked them with a sharp stick. They love the sound and frankly I like it a lot more than constant crying. Earlier today I told my husband I was tired of motherhood...normally I would say motherhood is the best thing in my life. This really did do me SO MUCH GOOD and gave me a semblance of normalcy back. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO POSTED ABOUT THIS WHITE NOISE!!

I need to buy a white noise machine for the boys room, maybe I'll just do a fan this summer.

But, yay for you! It's amazing what a difference the right kind of noise makes. [IMG]

Who would think that would make such a big difference. What I think is funny is that they sleep so great with that loud noise maker but if I open their door and it makes a creaky noise, they wiggle around in their sleep.

Yup! We leave the ceiling fan on high because it makes a nice swooshing sound! All the kids have fans, I wouldn't live w/out them!!

In fact, I'll admit, I have to have our's on high too in order to get a good sleep, LOL!

I know, the same tip helped me out!!! I got a humidifier for their room and always turn it on at night for "background noise" and it helps ... what REALLY helped was when they would both be screaming their heads off, I would tune the radio to static and it would silence them in a minute, like you pressed a button! Amazing!

We have the fisher price Aquarium bouncy seat and it makes ocean, rain, rainforest and river noises... so we just turn it on even though they dont sit in it yet! I used a music CD with my first and this is much more calming.

Does snoring count as "white noise"?! When they were first born they slept in our room and my husband snores. When we moved them into their own room I turned the noise maker on. It sounds like a "babbling brook" Sounds more like a fish tank running to me. But you're right, it's been a lifesaver. We even take it when we travel, and we do alot of that. It helps them go right to sleep.
I'm so glad it's worked for you too. There's something to be said about silence.
