The girls are starting to say actual words that consistently mean something. Now they both say mommy and daddy (although Meara still says daddy more, but thats ok), Uh Oh!, Owww (usually after they pinch me or bite daddy), and Hey! (accompanied with a cool hand up in the air wave).

This week Meara has learned three new words. Eye! (while pointing to anyone's eye who will let her), Ahya (Ana!), and Bella...

The last one had DH and I cracking up last night. Bella is her word for doggy. Sounds random, but our sitter's dog is named Bella. We have a book of animal pictures and two days ago she opened to the dog and said Bella. Since it looks nothing like the real Bella I thought I was imagining things. Then last night a dog food commercial came on TV and she was pointing and saying Bella! Bella! Bella! The real Bella is small, black floppy-looking thing. The dog food commercial dog was a small white terrier. How the h*ll did she know its also a dog?

Ana may not be as vocal, but she working hard on saying brush when I hand her the baby brush during diaper changes. She says "Brrrr. Brrrrruuuu" Thats a far as she gets for now. She also has a word for zipper "Zzzzzzeeeee" and tries to unzip her clothes.

As a side note, its almost 8am and they are still sleeping!!! I of course woke up at 7, but I'm sitting here in the dining room enjoying a quiet hot cup of coffee while I type this, and listening to the silence in the house. They spent the afternoon at grandma and grandpa's yesterday.. I'm thinking we should make this a weekly trip if they sleep so soundly afterward!

I'll stop bragging now.. thank you for indulging me :)

Brag away!! We all do it. That is so cute that all dogs are "Bella".

And hope you enjoyed your quiet time while it lasted.

 SWEET!!! It's wonderful as they learn to speak and have funny names for stuff. (My favorite for a long time was trikeysue for tricycle!!)

Enjoy it and start getting video clips. They become verbal very quickly!!! :hug99:

AWWWWW!! That is soooo cute!!! Gosh I cannot believe your girls are talking....just seems like yesterday that they were born!

I had about an hour of quiet bliss this morning too. DH was taking a nap since he let me sleep in, and he was up at 6:30 with Carlie. The twins were taking a nap, and Emily was upstairs playing. I too had a cup of coffee...oh it was nice.

How cute! Once they start talking, they don't stop! It's funny what their first words are too, you think it's going to be something so significant, like Mama, but then it's "cat".

Awesome! Language development is so totally fascinating. I also marvel at how even so young they can generalize (knowing that a dog that looks totally different from a dog they know is still a dog). Little smarty pants! :)

It really is so amazing. Before you know it, they will be learning many words daily and things you had no idea they would remember or retain, they will totally surprise you with. Sometimes my girls say things that I didn't even know they knew and before you know it, they will be asking for what they want and what they need and it will make things sooooooooooooo much easier for everyone. Enjoy every minute of it. Today, dh was getting up with the girls (Sunday is my day to sleep in) and I heard Arwen outside the door saying "What's mommy doing?" I was like OMG, she used a 3 word sentence WOOOOOHOOOOO! It gets more and more exciting. My girls still generalize with some things and I think it is so cute and so clever. Sounds like your babies are their way to some awesome language development!! Before you know it, you will be saying "Guys, guys. Please. Shhhh for just a second. Mommy's head hurts."
