My little sister is 7 weeks pregnant and had her first ultrasound today, they did the vaginal kind and the Dr. said she could see a heartbeat but no baby. How is that possible? She also said it looks like my sis is 5 weeks but my sister is sure of her last LMP, the Dr. said it could be that she ovulated late. She goes for another ultrasound in 3 weeks. She is really freaked out because she had an early miscarriage last August and is terrified that is happening again. They had been trying for a while and she was so happy to see a BFP, I just hope everything is okay.

Hmmm, I don't know how a heart could be beating without a baby?

Maybe they have crappy technology. If the heart is beating it needs to be in something.

sounds like something was either said or heard wrong - what did she see? did she see a HB? those usually cant be seen on sono until after 6 wks. at 5 wks you see a gestational sac with a dot in it if you are lucky. with the twins only saw a gestational sac at 5 wks - no baby and especially not 2 babies. time will tell.

Yeah it is really weird, I keep thinking she had to have heard wrong, but she insists that is what was said. She said she did see the heartbeat, so I think things will be fine. It's going to be a long 3 weeks.
