Thirsty much?

Alice is always thirsty. She never drinks though.

I doubt she is showing signs of type one diabetes (although that is the first thing that runs through my mind with excessive thirst) because while she's showing signs of being thirsty, the girl does not drink what we give her. She does not pee often, she has constant access to water, juice, or milk, whatever she asks for (then she promptly throws a fit over and then refuses to drink it, whatever it is.)

She woke up at 4:30 this morning complaining that her neck was hurting. I got her to explain that it was the inside of her neck that was hurting (throat) and that she was thirsty. But of course, when I came back with something for her to drink, she was asleep.

She asks for a specific drink, then throws a major tantrum that she wants something else when given the drink. Any ideas of how to get liquids into her? I'm tempted to get her sprite or some other soda just so she'll drink it (and she will drink root beer and happily chirp "it's bubbly on my tongue".)

What about selzer water? Thats bubbly without the sugar, which can dehydrate you.

Oooooh I like your thinking! One of the flavored seltzer waters would be a good thing to try. And if she doesn't like it, I have vodka! : :wine:

:slap: If she doesn't like juice, I can't imagine she'll like vodka!!

    ;)

I was thinking seltzer too, or maybe club soda with a little juice in it. If all else fails, you can give her watermelon or popsicles. :pardon:

What about watery fruits? Will she drink a smoothie?

Or how about ice cubes to suck on/chew?

She'll eat ice, but not smoothies. Too thick for her. She likes chocolate milk, but the juice box milk stuff is normally too thick so I thin it down with 2% milk. Popsicles would work too, but it's cold in our house, so I haven't bought any lately. She'll eat oranges (and normally loves OJ), watermelon (but not cantelope or honeydew) and berries.

And Val, the vodka is for me!

    Lol!

The vodka may be your only choice at least then one of you will be happy! I have not had much luck with making toddlers happy lately I am beginning to think that they have a language of their own and it is subject to change without warning juice may be code for sprite and water may be code for juice, you may never know.

Would a special cup or straw help. Mine love straws to drink. Can cause spilling but maybe worth it for a while. Even go to tthe store and have her pick a new, cool cup that she gets to drink out of.

I just bribed her with an m&m and it worked. And she didn't wake up thirsty.
