We currently have carpet in our house. It was really nice but lately, due to a very long story it gets alot of water on it occasionally and is really starting to make the house stink, because the pad underneath is probably all milduey.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE hardwood floors but i am afraid that we would run into the same sort of problem with that, if the water got under the wood.. So we are considering doing stained concrete.

We woudl get a big rug in the living room and maybe some of these for other areas, but im kinda sorta worried about the babies. DH cousin had concrete floors and they have a 18 month old, and i don't think that they have ever had a problem with it when he was little but im still kinda worried. Do any of you have tile/concrete floors?? How do the babies do with it??

We have them in most of the house and LOVE them. It will take about 10 falls for them to realize it's hard but NOT a problem.

I have carpet in two rooms and I HATE it and am ripping it all up in 2 weeks! Carpets is gross and holds soooo many germs and bacteria, I just can't take it anymore.

    I think it's a great idea! :)

I have wooden floors throughout my flat, with exception of the bathrooms and kitchen. The babies have no problems at all. In fact, I think it helps them get a better grip when standing, etc. The disadvantage is that it can be quite cold to sit on in the colder weather but it´s just a question of dressing them in warmer trousers. I´d say go for it if you want to get rid of your carpets. It´s also easier to clean!

Also, my step-mum has flag stones on her floors and my half sisters and brother never had a problem.

I hate carpet. We have it on the stairs and all upstairs, and I would love to rip it all out and put in hardwood throughout. We have hardwood downstairs and haven't had too many bad falls because of it. In fact, Emma was running the other day and fell into our stairs, which ARE carpeted, and has a huge lump/bruise on her forehead from it.

We have tile, wood, and carpet in our house. Honestly, we have a hard time keeping the floors clean between all the animals and kids going in and out, so my children ALWAYS have dirty feet. If you can get past that, there is no reason to worry, after a few falls, the kidlets will learn how to hold their heads when they fall. I used a foam mat when they were younger and bought two large rugs when they started walking. Kids are going to get bumps and bruises regardless of the type of floor you have.

If you have a water issue, hardwood flooring is not your best choice. Water is hardwood/wood laminates worst enemy because it can warp the flooring. I do not know about you but that is a lot of money we spent and we want it to last. Infact, I was told by the manufacturer that I should damp mop my floors no more than once a month. I follow this rule and the flooring is still perfect. I bought a roomba so the floors get vacumed everyday while the entire family is tucked away in bed.

I love the our flooring and the house is SO much cleaner.

I think it will be fine with the hard floors. My whole house is hardwood and I have a large area rug in my living room where I often set the babies down but other than that I don't plan on protecting them from the hard floors. I think they will learn quickly that the floors are hard and hurt if they fall on them, whether it's tile, hardwood, concrete. Just do it! My parents had stained concrete in their home and it was beautiful and I am sure yours will be too!

We have all hard wood and we used a foam mat when the boys were tiny and needed floor time. Now that they're mobile it's less of an issue and they seem to do very well on the hard wood. We haven't had problems with water or accidents or anything. We also have a cat. No problems with the wood. We like it much better than carpet. We don't even have any rugs other than in the nursery.

I have all tile floors and wood in the bedrooms. My Lo's don't have a problem with it either. Its so much easier to clean when they spit up!! I did get interlocking mats from sams club and put those down on a big area of my livingroom floor. I saw the ones you were looking at, I had simialr ones and I had to get rid of them because my Lo's learned how to pull the letters and sides off. The ones from Sam's club are 2x2 (per square), the primary colors and very steardy, they can not pull them apart. The best thing about them is they are only $22.00 for 8 squares!!

We have pergo. We also put down mats for the play area. I then put a rug on it and a blanket on that. The rug for extra cusioning and the blanket so i can wash it .

We have hard wood and will be putting ceramic tile in our sun room. We ripped up our carpet and will be ripping up the rest upstairs shortly. We just have a couple of area rugs (no padding). We also have concrete in our three season room. My bff also has concrete in her house (she lives in her parents basement) and has bamboo area rugs. I really like it. It is so much easier to clean and doesn't hold dirt and odors. I wouldn't hesitate to do it, it makes life so much easier.

We have ceramic tile in our family room/kitchen and it is where we spend most of our time. We have a thin area rug down in the family room. When the boys started crawling, they would only stay on the carpet and not crawl on the tile. It was actually really nice! There were a few times that they fell and bumped their heads, but they were fine. As long as the concrete won't scrape up their knees (like the bottom of a swimming pool does your feet) I think it should be fine.
