Thighs wind-chapped under clothing?

Okay, so where we live in Texas, it's usually not very cold and not very windy. It's been a bit cold, but it finally warmed up the last few days. We played outside yesterday until early evening, and it started to get a little cold and windy for us (probably in the 50's).

When my 2-yr-old came in from playing outside, he complained of the fronts of his thighs hurting. When we undressed him, they were chapped. I think it's from the combination of wind and cold? He had khaki-type pants on. He didn't sweat and it's not from his legs rubbing together, since it's on the front. Also, he had pants on - his bare skin wasn't exposed to the wind. Can the wind still chap?

What can we do to prevent this? Do lined windpants prevent it? Does he need to wear sweat pants or something more soft and cotton-y outside?

Figured someone on here might have experienced this and have some help.

Any kind of thick cream will help. Vaseline/Aquaphor is a good protectant as well.

I was thinking Aquaphor as well. You might want to buy him a pair of boxer briefs to wear that are longer (I don't know what they are called) that might cover up his thighs and are thin enough to wear under pants so they aren't uncomfortable.

My boys have something similar on the sides of their calves, which has only been going on since we moved to Michigan. I try to put Aquaphor on their legs at bedtime and it does help. I should probably do it in the morning, too. Hope it heals quickly!

Thanks for the replies!! We were just going with lotion, but I can definitely see Aquaphor helping more.

I would check into sliding shorts from a baseball store. They're kind of neoprene-ish and work on keeping raspberries from forming when you slide across clay, so I would think they would work on keeping the chapping from happening from wind sliding across the legs.

Or get some babylegs. My friends kids wear them now at 4 years old as an extra layer of warmth. I use them to keep wind from blowing up my babies pants legs.
