They've never had a problem being wet...

I'm a little early on this but we've recently started introducing the potty and what goes in it, etc. I'm wondering if I'm going to have a more difficult time with training because ever since they were BORN, my boys have never been phased by wet OR poopy diapers. I swear they have never once cried because they needed a diaper. Like I said, I know it's early but I'd love to hear some of your experiences if you had kiddos like mine. Thanks!

Yup, I'm in the same boat, only mine are 26 months! They think the potty is a play thing. Not sure they're really getting it. Looking forward to responses from people who can actually help you.

My son was exactly the same. It never bothered him if he was wet, until recently, which I think is one of the signs that he is getting ready to save on dippers :D . I was introducing him to a potty since he was about 6 months old, so he knows what it is about, but as I was told, at some point it will click in their heads, and they will know what to do. I think you need to just wait, it will get to them. Good luck.

I can promise ya, if you make a small investment of a few cloth diapers and start putting them in those, they *will* have a problem with being wet or poopy! Disposables are so absorbent that they often dont even realize they are wet. Wet and poopy cloth against your skin is much more upleasant than a lovely absorbent disposable! With Owen, I would actually tell him "You know, if you use the potty you won't get that icky feel on your bum, buddy!" It may mean a little more work for you for a month or two with washing the diapers and all, but I know they'll train quicker! Good luck!

I think when it does start to bother them, that's when they are ready, with my two it was 3 years old

Ditto. When they are ready it should start to bother them. That's how it was with my first who has been potty trained about 3 months now, and my second who wants her diaper immediately changed when she goes now. She's in the process of potty training.

As pp have mentioned, when they are ready, they will care. Until about 22 months, mine didn't care about being wet or dirty at all. Now, I have one who always wants to have his diaper changed, he will actually go on the potty or tell me when he has done something in his diaper. I think that he is almost ready for real training. The other doesn't care at all about being dirty, but enjoys the attention he gets when he is on the potty, or does something in it. He may take a bit longer to train.

Mine were like that. And as we approached three I was pretty sure they just weren't going to make the switch, but lo and behold, one day they cared and started telling me when they went and needed to be changed. That's when I knew it was time to encouraging the potty.

Mine are 28 months and are still like this - they don't care at all about poopy or wet diapers...I've introduced the potty and they love to flush the big toilet but thats about it...They have started to FUSS alot when changing them...I keep saying if we try the potty then we don't need to do this - they don't get me yet!
So I keep reading to wait it out - and I will - but still it would be nice to have had a manual to go with them to say when and where this would all happen!!
I do like the idea of changing over to cloth diapers but i'm not sure it would affect them in any way...and also, I'm in some serious winter weather up here in Canada and having to deal with all the clothes to change all the time would be difficult - I think I may wait it out atleast until summer (when atleast they can use a tree!!)

More ideas are welcome though! Thanks
